Upstream Color
I was a fan of Primer. Complicated story. Upstream Color...man....what the fuck. This was a tough one to follow. I mean I got the basic idea's of the story after reflecting, but 90% of the film is a giant WTF is going on! Beautiful scenes and music throughout, just difficult to fully understand. I've read interviews with the director and his answers to questions don't even make sense lol.

It was definitely a 180 from Primer, which was very plot/dialogue heavy. You have no choice to do that with your 1st film tho, especially when it was privately produced by the director & his friends.

I enjoy the more artsy approach he went for with this film & can understand why he'd give interviews the runaround with explaining it. Laying everything out kinda defeats the purpose/experience of it.

The concept was kinda of interesting, but the cinematography, the atmosphere, and the people were too vanilla for me to actually care about.

American Hustle was definitely not as strong as I thought it was gonna be. It was all about the tension in everyones relationship, and less about the story and its progression to the climax. the payoff at the end wasnt bad though

seems like it was more David O. himself than for the studios

I've been meaning to watch Upstream Color. Have you seen Holy Motors? It's weird as fuck. Hard to recommend to the average movie-goer, but I can't say it didn't keep my interest.

I missed Holy Motors.

It's not that I didn't like Upstream Color, I was interested throughout, but it's not something I would recommend watching. I was also expecting something better since I was a fan of Primer. I mean the plot is crazy, almost insane lol, just weird and difficult to follow.

I wouldn't say that Holy Motors is difficult to follow, but it is crazy weird. It's on Netflix last I checked.
