I haven't seen what you're speaking of but I would imagine they tracked the forum through some public "top sites" such as Big Boards and chose to advertise.
How internet marketing works is: refer people-> either get commission for site visits or commission through site purchases. It could be bounced through 3 or 4 parties before Best Buy has anything to do with it.
