pretty dope. i forgot about prophet posse Beer and Rap Presents oooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooo… The Mixtape STORY BY: Sam Hockley-Smith You know that part in The Beastie Boys’ “The New Style” where it’s just an endless loop of them going oooOOOoooOOOoooOOO? It could be annoying, but instead it’s just awesome. So awesome, in fact, that an endless stream of rappers have since appropriated it—usually to great effect, too. Here, Serg of Beer and Rap and DJ Hunnicutt of Canada compile some of the best uses, with Three 6 Mafia’s “I’m So High” a definite personal favorite. Mostly, though, this is an endlessly hypnotic mix that makes us feel like we’re in the middle of an unruly crowd of people that just won’t shut up. Is this what hell is like? If it is, that’d be okay. Ok, so this idea came about this spring when Serg decided he wanted to hear all the songs that sample the "oooOOOoooOOO" part from "The New Style" by Beastie Boys mixed together. I had been thinking about that same thing, since the sample had been popping up recently in songs by Pill, The Cool Kids, and Talib Kweli. So we pooled our resources (with Serg coming up with most of the tracks, since his brain is like a steel trap of rap), and the first-ever San Francisco/Winnipeg mixtape collabo was born.
