Rhythm - I remember back in the days seeing your video on CMC as well. Those were good times for Bay rap. In '96 I had to move to Chicago for a while and I worked in a Camelot record shop. One day these dudes came in and tried to hip me to Ray Luv and E-40. It made me laugh but at the same time, homesick as hell. Hopefully we will see another time like that.

Side note - everybody go look at Ray Luv's video "In The Game" or WCBB "Peace to the Streets" video and see DJ MARK 7 with HAIR.

But then again, it's what the "people" want, and studies show what the "majority" of what people want is mainstream...
Ya know that's what I USED to think to. But we've been gettin an overwhelming response from people who would NORMALLY request Ja Rule etc., when we play local shit...It just hasta be given a chance...

the future of bay rap is in our backyard...it's the punk producers chargin too much

if the boot fit wear it

much props to cats like Black C and Mark 7 who ain't scared to give some young cats a chance with such cheap beats....

but still, i think producers should look out for the bay...if Khayree was chargin 2 G'z a beat instead of 10, there'd be a lot of dope rappers rockin some sick ass beats...but mothafuckas can't afford that shit

so we can't blow up with weak beats point blank

The reason Kobe Soz' cd was so terrible was because he put his money towards features rather than production. I think thats where the money should go. I'm not disagreeing with you because you are right, if only there was away to keep everybody in the game satisfied and on the same level. If we could do that than we could blow up!

If our radio played our shit, our artists would get big. I know KMEL has been playin a lot of Done Deal lately and they always showed love to E-40 and $hort. But thats not enough. I wanna hear Bay Rap on the radio all the time. When I met Big Mack he was tellin me the Bay Area Radio is the hardest to get your shit on since almost all the stations are ran by the same organizations. As artists, producers, graphic designers, distributors, and fans all need to get our local radios attention and get our shit played. Lets do this...1
Why is it that people are so sold on the idea that radio play is all you need to "blow up"? I guess it's because of all the misconceptions people have about becoming a successful recording artist and just the music business in general. There's a lot more that's holding things back than lack of radio play but there's no sense in beating a dead horse. This subject has been talked to death.

Radio can certainly help you become successful but it can't be blamed for your failure(s).

I based what I said on my conversation with Big Mack and when I was talkin to him about the situation that is what he told me. I didnt say thats all we need cause we all know its not. But its a damn good start!

So you do understand the importance of hot beats but you still don't think anyone should have to pay for them... That shit amazes me.

Producers arn't punks just because they don't run a fuckin' wanna-be rapper beat charity organization. It's all these silly ass rappers who think they are more special and significant than they really are that got things twisted. They'll have you believe its doing you a favor if they rap over your hottest tracks. Maybe for one in a million that might be true but otherwise it's pretty much a joke.

I can dig it but your very first sentence was "If our radio played our shit, our artists would get big."

SICKWIDIT...i didn't say they're punks for not givin out free beats, i didn't ask for that...

i'm sayin, us in the bay, we're all in the same boat...broke!!!
so i'm sayin who can afford a 10 G beat in the bay? now, how many could afford a 2 G Beat, khayree would make more bread with cheaper prices, then he is with the expensive prices...

and yeah i think producers should look out for up and comers...cus so and so producer is prolly gon give Mac Mall a free beat, or real cheap, but charge me a bunch cus i'm unheard of...

producers should charge less, they'll get more sales, more money in the long run(fast money too), the bay will have better albums, get more attention, and everyone with talent will prosper...

now, go back and read what i said, cus you musta read the wrong post or somethin lol

stay up

and yo, i'll pay for beats, but work with me...

shouts to Tatem 1 and Mr.Cleen as well on their prices, i'll be fuckin with both for the album

I couldn't believe that post when I read it...

KMEL isn't playing enough Bay shit?? Maybe if the Bay wasn't doing what everyone else is doing(only worse) then we'd get some radio play.

On the real though... what happenned to Rappin 4 Tay's positive outlook?

What about 40's wacky flow?

And Tha Luniz bizarre style?

It's uniqueness that gets you radio play.

Of course they aren't going to play some wannabe dirty south type bay shit. Why should they? That's not what I want to hear when I turn up KMEL...

What we need is a petition for a radio show on KMEL for maybe 2 hours that will play excusively local rap music. It seems like KMEL might be open to that idea since I heard they are adding a part to their website for unknown artists to get known. If we show how many potential listeners there could be by having a petition that is signed by several thousand people, it would get their attention. I think that the 98.7 shit will work too, since I've heard that since they changed the format their listeners have tripled. KMEL is so corporate now though, it didnt use to be that way. There are alot of people that are at that station that would do everything to help local music but they have no control over the situation.
