If our radio played our shit, our artists would get big. I know KMEL has been playin a lot of Done Deal lately and they always showed love to E-40 and $hort. But thats not enough. I wanna hear Bay Rap on the radio all the time. When I met Big Mack he was tellin me the Bay Area Radio is the hardest to get your shit on since almost all the stations are ran by the same organizations. As artists, producers, graphic designers, distributors, and fans all need to get our local radios attention and get our shit played. Lets do this...1

Aint gonna happen Chew. But 98.7 is a start, when they see that a loyal fanbase is there, it may come back to the old days...I remember sitting around a radio at bbq's listening to KMEL play Summerjam while it was happening with JT, Mac Mall, E-40 and Click etc. Good times.

I made this post because I got to pick my english final and of course I picked Bay Rap!!! I am going to base my speech on why the Bay has not "blown up". This thread will help a lot by getting all your input.

Gabe: If it's not going to happen with KMEL, we need to blow up 98.7 as a network. Props to Mark on that project.

Make 98.7 happen - call in, call in, call in.

Start small, end big.

All it takes is a dedicated fanbase for bigger things to happen. Most of you are too young to know how it was back in 92-93 when Bay rap blew up on radio, video, etc.

You cant imagine how big it was to see Ray Luv, being from Santa Rosa, on MTV. You cant imagine how it felt seeing DJ Mark 7, who was DJ KAOS then, in Ray Luv and Master P videos regularly played on CMC and MTV. My point is, it started on a small level and when big-wigs see a small dedicated fanbase, they cant help but try to see why there is a buzz surrounding a certain type of music. Thats why KMEL turned to local rap back in 93-95 instead of G-Funk LA rap that was so huge at the time. East Coast has taken that place of LA rap in our present state. Funnel support into one working aspect of radio and see what happens. Might as well give it a try if people are as serious as they say.

You could say there is a new era in rap with 50 hittin the scene. I think his gangsta image attracks a huge fanbase and that gangsta image is all over the bay. In the last couple years mianstream rap has been all glamour and glitz, looks like that is changing. They want gangsta, we got it.....Is it our time???

I see it like this, we need to look at other outlets instead of relying on just one. For example, i see this alot, our community raises awareness that we aren't being properly represented in such newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle, well instead of stressing so much off that, you have to also consider who funds them and who their target audience is. Old white conservative men. They aren't interested in appealing to our young folks in lets say the mission or the tenderloins, so we have to support papers such as the BayView or Youth Outlook.

In a radio sense...we have to support such stations as 98.7, 94.1 hardnock radio, 89.5, and im sure there are so many others...

stop concentrating on one, help blow up another...

Lady Tragic hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Frisco's paper. There is only one fuckin main paper in the city!! One source, one company's input. The Rap Radio stations in the Sco which are the maine ones in the bay as well, 106 KMEL and Wild 94.9, are ran by the same people. So the source is the same again...We need variety in ownership which is out of anyone in the games hands.

illmannered666: You right man. 98.7 be playin a group that I manage and produce called Tha Suspects all tha time in heavy rotation. They play real deal local shit as well as what's new and poppin around tha country. 98.7 is tha shit and will get bigger and bigger as time goes on. Support them cause they support us. End of story. I do appreciated Chuy Gomez and what he has done for my friend Goapele. Big Von is trying to get more cats on though. But it's tha upper management that be holdin cats down. I remember when KMEL used to play Game Recognize Game by J.T. and it felt good that they were puttin local cats on and not only in tha late night mix. They were really on to something then, but we'll see if they keep it goin.....As for now, 98.7 be doin it real big........

But then again, it's what the "people" want, and studies show what the "majority" of what people want is mainstream...like it or not. They gotta make money some how - it's a business.

SO until the "majority" of the bay calls in and shows consistently that they want lets say for example A WAX or YUK, youll just have to continue tappin into other local places....

First of all FUCK Clear Channel..... and second of all, Tragik has a point... those "people" want mainstream type shit....

Everyone had to be underground before blowing up big....but as far as the bullshit surveys they do...um I aint NEVER seen nobody taking surveys in the neighborhood asking any of us if we liked what was being played on the radio.... you know where the surveys are being done? the fuckin MALL.... and we all know what kinda teeny boppin-ass, TRL watchin, lops are at the mall
