I hear and read so much about how bay rap is garbage, played out, undiverse, childish, and most of what I hear is coming from bay area residents. Although as in every music scene, the bay's got unoriginal, corny, and crappy music made as a spin off to the good music, there's still alot of artists in the bay making great music. They've got quality lyrics, original style's, something interesting to say. Sometimes artists slip but for the most part these guys havin been doin it and doin it well...

San Quinn
The Jacka
E-40
Keisha Cole
Husalah
Ya Boy
Mistah F.A.B.
Andre Nickatina
Zion-I
Equipto
J. Diggz
PSD
Messy Marv
The Team
Yukmouth
The Federation
Bailey

(im sure i left alot of people out)

...these artists are young and old. Some came up durin the mob era, sum during the hyphy movement, but they all make good music. I know alot of the older cats don't like hearing the word hyphy 1000 times, but its the new lingo, its just words we use to describe shit, its not always a gimmik. Alot of shit in music is repeated, becuase people do alot of the same things, alot of people smoke weed so alot of people rap about it. Alot of people go dummy, so alot rap about it. As long as you do it through your eyes in an original way, it wont get played out. People have made songs about shit like love since forever, and its still not played out.If you dislike everyone single one of these artists and disagree with my opinion that the bay is making alot of good music then i'd like to hear why?

^^yeah i could see that. but also alot of those people on my list don't even fuck wit the hyphy style (saying the word hyphy or dumb or stupid doesnt make ur song hyphy music), and it seems like they're getting ignored and everyones just saying the bay is all hyphy, it sucks. i personally think theres good hyphy music and bad hyphy music but if u dont like it at all..theres so much more the bay has to offer

I think the overwhelmingly wack beats play a part in it too. Yeah there are some dope producers here like Rick Roc, Shonuff, and Rob Lo but other than that most of these beats i'm hearing are boo boo. Combine that with wack lyrics and you have a recipe for disaster. Zion I and the Team are probably my favorite in that list you posted. If Baily had better production his shit would be on point.

Jacka is aiight but his flow bores me. It sounds like he's about to mumble his way to sleep. I used to like Dre Dog. San Quinn is pretty dope I forgot about him. Aside from all that every area has artists like them. What makes them any different than the 5 million other rappers?

I dunno, I think most Bay Area residents who hate hyphy DO give other bay rappers a chance. It just seems like they don't cuz they complain about the hyphy shit too much, but it doesn't mean they don't listen to other artists. I think it's only the ignorant people ouside of the bay that think we only make hyphy music.

That's a nice list of rappers in the first post.

the hyphy shit is probably the biggest thing that ever happened to the bay area rap game

how is something that lasted about 6 minutes the biggest thing to happen for bay area music....the bay area culture is always and ever changing..Hyphy was the movement at that time because that's how niggas was feeling...and really it was drugs that made people act and go along with it.....but when all the cloud and hangover was over...you wake up to reality...and this last bout 5 months the reality....NOTHING!! what's next....it's like a night out gurpin at the club...wake up the next day and just sleep and can't even function right..the come down is a muthafucka.....lets shake it off..and keep it movin.

yeah it is true that even if they like other artists theyre too busy hating on whats bad to give them mention..thats part of the reason i started this thread. TO GIVE THE BAY PROPS. instead of just shitting on it like most of the threads i see on here everyday

You are not serious are you? How can you say that when the old rappers sold the most units in the Hyphy Movement. Hammer was the biggest thing to happen in the Bay and for a while period in rap. The independant label movement was by far bigger than Hyphy will ever be- it changed the landscape of hip-hop period. It taught people how to make it without the majors. Hyphy= Hype. Now does it still have any value...that is up to the artist to make it bigger than just dread shakin and riddin wit the doors open. But hell no to your statement.

I agree with what you are saying man, you gotta keep in mind that most of these hypocrites who advocate the supporting of our artists download every single bay album they have; and the same cats saying they want the bay to be back are the same cats saying that artists are selling out when they are just trying to expand their network

I swear the bay has the most hypocrities ever
