i think by backpack rap he meant like actual MC's, but that is not backpack rap. i get what he means but i cant explain it. Hiero, blackalicious, zion i, planet asia, souls of mischief, etc. do not fall into that category. backpack rap is that rap that dudes spit that makes no sense at all, like atmosphere and shit like that, out of this world type raps that white people for some reason find nice. As for these MC's, dudes are better than 90% of these hyphy rappers. Their shit is slapped mostly by white people, but its not cause it appeals more to them, but most of us minorities are pretty ignorant of good hip hop and for some reason wont listen to anything besides whats hot. It's sad when almost all of the greatest lyricists/rappers of all time are unknown to just about everybody. niggas like Cormega, AZ, Masta Ace, are all underappreciated and refuse to listen to them or even give them a chance, but I would put all three of them on my top 10 GOAT list. I guess if you're a universal hip hop head you know which way im going with this, but all three of those dudes is spittin real life shit. what goes on in the streets, life experiences, you just wont get much club music from them (except Masta Ace) cause they aint in the game to please nobody, they're there for the love of it and make some money while they at it. and trust me, all three of them are makin their money

This thread says alot about the state of hip-hop. Anyone who thinks that rapping about politics or sounding intelligent is for oreo's is racist!!! (It Don't matter if you're black, internalized racism is real...) Also, for whoever thinks that "backpack" rap is bought only by whites is ignorant. In fact, gnagsta rap is the music whites buy. Look at NWA, they became popular when the kids from the suburbs started buying the albums. Look at 50 cent, (the new-age gansta rapper) his fan base is as white as they come. Without white people buying records hip-hop would not have made it this far...
And finally, when did listeners really start to beleive this gansta bullshit rappers be spittin on they songs. Anybody can sell drugs, anybody can bust a gun, and worse anybody can write about it without ever doing it.
