LOS ANGELES -- An 11-year-old girl allegedly attacked her baby sitter with a machete at the end of a violent struggle that included attempts by the youngster to grab a baseball bat, a shovel and a BB gun.
The 34-year-old sitter telephoned deputies at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday after locking herself in the bathroom of a Mojave Desert home, Sgt. Doug Hubbard of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said. The sitter's name was not released.
Investigators said the woman was baby-sitting an 11-year-old girl and her 12-year-old sister while their mother was at work.
The 11-year-old and the sitter argued over feeding a dog at the home, and the girl began to beat and then choke the animal, Hubbard said. The baby sitter attempted to pry the girl off of the dog and the girl began hitting the woman, Hubbard said.
The scuffle then moved to the front yard, where the girl grabbed a small shovel and then a baseball bat and attempted to attack the woman, the sergeant said. The girl then found a BB gun and the woman managed to get it away from the girl, he said.
The altercation continued until the girl found a machete lying in the yard and began to chase the woman, who managed to grab the girl's sister and lock them both in the home's bathroom, Hubbard said.
The girl fled on a bicycle but was arrested an hour later. She was booked for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon at the High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Facility in Apple Valley, Hubbard said.
