This is good stuff, the kind of stuff that sounds good on my computer but great in my car b/c the beats are power packed. I'm really impressed, this "slap music" or whatever Syk calls this style of rap movement is growing on me.
Favorite tracks are:
"Do Nuttin" - It's a nice sample that a rapper from Tacoma used back in the day (I can't remember who right now), with the usual low basslines banging.
"Fo My Nigguhz" - Slow mob track, very nice smooth violin strings overlapping the deep hard bass and slap percussion. I love this track for the beat, not b/c the lyrics are especially good.
"The Hardest Times" - Another smooth, slow mob style track, samples "Wild Flower" by New Birth (Fat Joe and others have used this sample). A portion of the sample chorus "she's faced the hardest times" is flipped repeatedly throughout the track, even in the rapping portions.
"The Path God Threw Me" - Flips the oft-used Al Green "Love & Happyness" beat, it has the immediate feel of a NW anthem b/c they shout out Hilltop, 206, 503 at the beginning.
"Run Tha Streetz (Vice City)" - Flips Teddy Pendergrass's "Come Go With Me" in another oft-used sample. Syko spits a great first verse, maybe his best on the album. The low basslines of the sample are replaced with the same notes but that funky Portland/Cali style instrument that reminds me a little bit of "Cyber Grindin" by Mitchy Slick. There are some additional strings added over the top of the Pendergrass sample.
"Trailblazin" - Nice upbeat smooth type of song, I don't know what the sample is.
"Use You" - This track flips about a 2 second cut from Leon Ware's "Why I Came To California" cut, then on top of that has the vocals from some 80's song. This song hits hard.
