A big problem with this is how is an artist gonna try to successfully run a company? BIG TASK. Only PUFFY has done it real big like that. Artists LOVE the spotlight & the mic too much to put it down so how you gone help push the artists you have signed to yo label? Holla back anyone with any good answers or comments.

I DONT AGREE, IT DEPENDS ON HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU HAVE SIGNED AND HOW MUCH TIME YOU HAVE ON YOUR HANDS.... AND YOUR GAME PLAN.... PERSONALLY I KNOW PLAYA RAE RUNS A LABEL AND HE IS HIS OWN ARTIST, HE DOES A GOOD JOB AT IT.... I ALSO HAVE A LABEL, WITH ME, MY FEMALE SINGER, AND A FEMALE RAPPER, AND MY PARTNER IN RHYME ARE ON MY LABEL.... NONE OF US ARE SHORTED AND I HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO SPEND WITH EACH PERSONS PROJECT.... SURE I KNOW IT AINT EASY, IM BUSY 24/7, AND MY PROJECT IS PUT TOGETHER SLOWER, BUT I DONT MIND, CUZ IT GIVES ME MORE TIME TO MAKE SURE ITS PERFECT.... AND I STILL HAVE TIME TO DO OUTSIDE CATS MUZIC AS WELL...

BUT JUST SOME PEOPLE WERE MADE TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE PRESURE, SOME ARE NOT.... SOME KNOW HOW TO HUSTLE, SOME DONT....

I'm not hating on yo hustle but...

really, how successful is it according to your measure of success? Even WCM got some dope artists on there but I haven't seen a 151 flyer, poster, or ad anywhere but I've seen C BO ads in the SOURCE, MURDERDOG, etc... Even as high profile as SNOOP is, none of his artists are out yet and he had good success with the EASTSIDERZ but apparently money problems and BAD AZZ's last album(PERSONAL BUSINESS) was held back to be put on SNOOP's label and it still didn't get that big push it needed. Personally, I don't think being an artist/ceo will ever work as far as bringing other artists out on your own label. Holla.

those same problem exist weither you a artist or not..... my people and i have the same goals and were on the same page, i didnt have a problem putting all my cards on the table.... some of these cats think it just sounds good for someone to sign to a label, but never read there contract or have a full understanding of what it is there gettin into, thats why you see problems.... but cats that have there bussiness down, make good bussiness moves...... ones that dont have good bussiness get fucced or fucc people.... but it has nothin to do with bein a artist, there a lot of dumb ceo's that dont rap, but fucc shit off all the time.... and if im correct, i dont thing c-bo actually runs his label, he may call shots and etc, but he has a bussiness man behind him...

like i said, its the opperation as a whole, that decides if your doin your job, but to me snoop, and c-bo takin on maybee more then they can chew, or maybee the budget on 151's album is alot less then c-bo's, there is all kinds of reasons why this shit happens, but you cant place all the blame on the artist being the ceo, there is alot of other issues that most dont know or understand unless you in the game....

i understand your point, but i just cant agree on it....

^^^ i know many of ceo's with college degrees that fucc people on a daily basis..... so that has nothin to do with it either..... just like there is cats that say they went to school and got a certificate from pro tools school, yet the mafuccaz dont know how to use the shit..... but cuz they got a certificate, they fool people into thinkin they somethin they not.... i go by the rule of thumb, "dont tell me, show me".

make me a believer and i'll follow, til then i stay on my path.

^^^ your right to that extent, but there are ways, but i think if i gave them out, id be spillin too much game, like i said it just takes the right person and situation to do it right, you do need help, but you just have to have the right people around you to help... for instance, your wife, or long time homie, that has no interest but to help you out.... people like that are nice to have around..... but chuck you made very valid points, it is not an easy task, my book is filled with shit to do on a daily.... but i feel it will pay off some day.... fact is i dont trust anyone, so i rather make my own bussiness decisions, then leave them to someone that wants to get paid, or is out for themselves...

Fuckin A, Tadou, a DEGREE TO RUN A LABEL is NOT necessary, not if you have business Savvy. So you would only fuck with a cat with college Credentials huh? So you woulda never signed to Ruthless Records under a good contract when Eazy was still around, or Aftermath? You can't tell me all these rap labels are run by cats with fuckin college degrees.

I'm an artist/Co-CEO, still upcoming and still trying to get shit organized, but we're doing fine for right now. Not only that, but I think better shit is to come out of our little business venture. Yea, AntDawg is the hustlin one out of the 2 of us, and I have the business mind. A fancy degree doesn't say shit playa, you either have it, or you don't. I know plenty of people with Masters Degrees in business that don't know shit about business. A piece of paper won't say shit to people buying your albums. I opened up 2 business books, looked through 'em, and I have a pretty good grasp on how a business should be run, and I think anybody can do it if they can analyze that shit, and understand it....

Anyhow, yea, running a company and being an artist, is hard, and time consuming, but it's doable, you just need people down to help you out.

A degree alone doesn't say shit...but a degree supplemented with real world business experience helps you better understand the business and the education a whole lot better.

Some of the dumbest people I ever met I met while I was in college but I also met some of the smartest. Its not about degrees and certificates, its about the persons ability to learn, retain information and their drive to succeed.

How often is it that you hear of artists who have to work day job as well as rap, just to pay the bills? now, with that in mind.....WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SIGN TO A LABEL WITH A CEO WHO WORKS A DAY JOB, BECAUSE THE LABEL DOESNT MAKE ENOUGH CASH???? I guess thats the main point im trying to make.
I feel what all of you are saying to the fullest...but this hit me on the nose. I had BIG problems with this when I first started and will never make that same mistake again. I learned alot and one is....if your working a 9 to 5 and the music is not paying for itself you get a roster of upset people when you cant pay for certain things etc. It gets hard to opperate your label under those conditions and that was a hard lesson to learn but one I stood up too and faced.

Now, when I get hit for cats wanting to get signed and wanting to be a part of this...I cannot lie....I turn them down point blank because I have 3 projects I need to drop and have to prove to MYSELF that this company can take care of itself and fund itself so I don't need to dig into my own pocket. Until I can sell units on a consistant basis and do all of those things just said I cannot promise another artist a nice start in this business. You do that you get looked at as some shady label owner who can't provide shit and is laggin on someone's project. I will never make the same mistakes twice...but I don't regret the lessons learned, I went through them for the most part alone because I hustled for the most part on my own. I am glad I learned early in this game...I wouldn't trade them lessons for the world.

*On a side note...I do EVERYTHING for this label on my own and it is HARD AS FUCK. I never sleep because I can't afford to, if I do that all yall cats with a staff will smash a small timer like me so I have to stay on the hustle. If ever thangs do pick up, I would by all means hire a staff...even PUFFY has one. :)

my FORTY-EIGHT cents.
