Modesto California brings you Big Chill and his first official release "Chill Pill" which is a testament to the hidden talent that lies deep within the streets of the Central Valley. Chill's album can be best summed up as " West Coast, Grown Folks, Feel Good Gangsta music" so you 90's babies might not appreciate it as much... From the production to the lyrics, this album is a true hidden treasure from the 209. Chill clearly has been influenced by some of the best names in West Coast rap, and at the same time it is quite clear that he has built a unique style of his own. With his fast-paced delivery which is spit clearly and is crisp as a brand new Ben Davis shirt...Chill brings you within his world by payng homage to his upbringing and childhood, several songs are quite deep and portray Big Chill's life in a vivid fashion, illustrating his troubles with the law, baby mama drama and overall outlook through Chill's eyes.
The production on this album is the definition of that signature West Coast sound, with many tracks sounding as if they were the missing cuts from a West Side Connection album ( at times Chill sounds like Ice Cube, at times he sounds like E-40..the influence of the originators gives the album a nice balace.). With thundering basslines, to the uptempo party music tracks, this whole album is a "feel good" classic.
Slap this album in during a BBQ and get the party started!... the timing of the release coincides with the start of summer and would compliment any backyard boogie, house party or what ever you got going.
The album offer a good blend of content, ranging from tracks like "House Party" an upbeat party anthem.... to darker tracks like "Murderer's Row" and "Anger" which displays Chills rage held within and then unleashed in the booth. We're talking about a cat that made a song named "Wiggle" and its actually one of the most gangsta tracks of the cd...Chill's flow is smooth and on point and shows that his talent in undeniable.
This is Chill's first official album release, which raises the one question i have asked myself everytime I listen to the album "where has this guy been all along?"
