People aren't partying/drinking more because of Facebook and other sites...it's just more in your face now than it was before.. Years back there wasn't such an instant way to share what you were doing, now there is. That's the difference.
Like I've said, I don't think there's really a way to prove it. I'm not sure if there's been studies on this yet. It's more of a theory.

Think about it though, if you go through a news feed, you see all the check ins, images of people doing things, most will be "tempted" to do the same eventually. We crave consumption.

I think everyone has "self invited" themselves at one point. You see so and so checked in, so your like "fuck it" I'm going to head over there and check it out and as a guy you might be even more tempted to join if you notice there's girls you know or recognize. Oh what a coincidence we are at the same place. hahah bullshit!

So what I'm saying is there's just more ways to go about meeting people now because of social networking. It's become effortless, it comes to you on your phone, email, heck even car. Therefore I think there's a correlation with more drinking, partying, buying shit or just doing more in general. I just think we've been bred into competition. Heck, our economy functions off of Capitalism which is the foundation of competition. We are easily tempted and I think it's at its greatest point ever.

What kills me is these morons who check into their own homes. Why would you put that info out for any and everybody to know? There's a reason some people haven't been to my house...lol.

And I don't think these creators knew social networking would become so big, either....but it has. Now what? Do we keep posting until we run out of shit to say? Do we evolve with vocal chords that only make sounds because language is no longer used? People don't even know how to use words anymore, so it seems we are headed in that direction.

Oh, and I'd say 90% of the friends I talk to on FB no longer answer their phones, and they seem timid as fuck when we get together in person. Everybody just sits in a fuckin' corner and updates Facebook from their phones. God forbid folks grab a drink, a hamburger, open their mouths, and lighten the fuck up.

I feel you man. That's exactly why I haven't caved into a smart phone either. "They" want us all to cave in. There's some higher minds out there profiting off this and thinking of even more ways of trapping us. Sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I think it's true. It makes sense to control an entire society. Why do you want people to THINK, it's easier to trap them and condition them with false realities like the media, advertisements, reality shows, the newest trends, gadgets,etc... It's all a smoke screen and we are doing it to ourselves. We are voluntarily dumbing ourselves down by participating.

I think in the near future we are going to see a lot of new inventions that interconnect with social networking. That's where the money is going to be. If you can't beat them, join them I suppose. Soon we won't have to go out anymore if we don't want. We can have virtual environments set up in our homes or walk into these virtual boxes at set locations. The SIMS or PS Home to a realistic level. Some crazy ass ideas are going to start evolving from this, you watch.

Once you go smartphone you never go back. True story.
My brother and I both had smart phones and both of us got rid of them for regular ass flip phones within the last month. We decided to take our lives back one thing at a time. We cut out hella facebook posting (we both liked to get on and say some random shit to stir the pot and piss people off), and we cut out a lot of PS3 time.

Funny thing, I took a simple ass Nokia flip to the AT&T store, and the guy working the counter helping me change my plan did not know how to use it.

What IronLungs said.

In fact, i would go as far as to say that social networks has DISCOURAGED social interaction outside of texting and typing. All you are doing is trying to replace REAL friends with "virtual friends", and talking on the phone/face-to-face interaction with text-based messages. Nothing could be more ANTI-social IMHO.

You are just seeing more partying, becuase people are sharing their lives more. You didn't have this 15 years ago. However, i partied hard when i was in my teens...and all we had were beepers.
