i worked at a safeway around 3 months ago. i started out on nightcrew and got a promotion real quick. within a year i was a second assistant manager. i went from making 8;50/hr to making 695/week becuase i was on salary. i thought it was all good becuaseof the money but when your on salary that shit aint no joke. i was there for like 65+ hrs a week. shit started getting to me and i was getting bad chest pains, so i went to the emergency room last new years eve and they said it was from stress, i ended up quitting last febuary and saying fuck that shit. Wasnt worth the fucking time and stress. As for courtesy clerks shit is cake, just sit back and bag shit all day and chill never take up management, aint worth it.

yeah but how soon in the 15 years did he make the 30? in the trade that i am trained in, it'll only take me 3 years or less to make around 40 an hour.
I mean..no offense, but so what? The fact is, he likes his job, he is comfortable with it, and it pays his mortgage and pits food on the table for his child and clothes on his back...hell, he even bought a boat last summer. He is fine where he is at, why are you trying to knock him down? I never got the whole "i would never be caught dead working there"...why? Are you THAT worried what people think of you? If you LIKE what you do, who gives a shit what people think?

thats cool ur boy gets that shit from safeway but yea .. aint no braggin about no safeway anything
No bragging, just setting the record straight. Shit, me and him dont even stay in touch anymore more than just through mutual friend's b-day parties. For awhile, him and i were beefin as a matter of fact.

The point is, especially NOW a days, a job is a job.

no offense to yur homie, but i just couldn't work at a safewais for the rest of my life, regardless if i liked what i did there or not. i dont know where you're getting me tryin to knock him down at, i was just simply saying that isn't the type of career yob i would want. but to each his own. more power to him for stayin true to safeways.

But why? You have yet to provide and answer as to WHY you wouldn't want to work there. Is there a particular reason? How would you know if you have never worked there?

Trust me, there are more important things to look for in a job than just the pay. I would rather LOVE my career and get paid peanuts, then LOATH my job and get paid bread.

I remember my old roommate, who lost his job at the time, said he would rather be HOMELESS, than be caught dead working at a place like McDonalds. I mean...really? He actually admitted he would rather be a stinky, dirty bum eating our of trashcans, than be seen working at a fast food joint. Hmmm...thats some sound logic. So people cant make fun of you for working at McD's, but your OK with asking them for change?

I got hired at $10/hr in Oct. 2005, I'm at $15 now..If i hadn't gotten a few write-ups earlier in my time there I'd be at $17/hr..oh well

once you top out at $18, you're eligible to enroll in the managerial program..you can get up to $2 per year, so you could theoretically become a manager in 4 years if you play your cards right..

that's cool

I'm gonna have to start lookin for a new job soon when I eventually get laid off

I just need somthin to hold me over while I'm goin to school... I wasn't necessarily lookin to work in retail or any type of store/restaurant... but I know there are certain companies which I've heard are good to work for

Costco for example...

but I guess I should just be happy with any job I find

it must be different up here then it is down there. Ive seen part timers go full time after less then a year. And I think the cap up here is around 19.

what did you get written up for?

its like you see these people all day at work, dont you want to like take a break from them and your work - afterwork.

i worked at safeway in the deli for like a month, first and only job i ever had that i walked out on. fuck that bullshit, working there was fucking embassassing to me. I hated seeing people that i knew in the mutherfucker when i was working there. I just despratly needed a job after being in school not working for almost a year.

I ended up getting a job at paid double what those assholes were paying me to be a fuckin slave. I seriously hated every second working at that hellhole.

Only way i'd ever work at another grocery store is if i was on the verge of losing my home or some tottaly desperate situation. Sure you can make money if you can play the game long enough but that shit just wasnt worth it to me. Especially starting at 8 bucks an hour, shit ain't even enough to pay for basic living expenses in the bay area.

With the obvious education you have homeboy you wont be working at "safewais" or any other company including fast foods chains for that matter.
Step your education game up my dude.
