alot of bay artist need to look at tech n9ne...this dude tours and promotes...get outside the bay, hit those hot spots where we get love, but at the same time get out....have your show game up.....thats where the money is alot of bay artist barely even hit la,sd, vegas, phoenix....etc let alone the midwest or down south. but having a great show is important and just staying out there...its obvious they got the bay on lock...but the world is bigger than the bay....trust me, im a military cat and i get around and hear alot of artist in particular southern artist that have half the talent as some bay artist but they lock down there entire region, not just atlanta or new orleans or whevere...they lock down the entire south....and do shows....thats what bay niggas need to do lock the entire west coast down not just where we at...and bring a tight ass show!!!!!!! mc'n is about MOVING THE CROWD....you gotta get out there and bring that shit...fan base will grow as well and the dough.

The real problem is not sales, promotion, or illegal downloading it is fans acting as if they know the record business. Threads like this where so much misinformation and negative shit is put out there is what's destroying Bay Area music. A flop is if the album does not make a profit or increase the awareness or fanbase of the artist. not how many units were sold. This album is already a profit and actually sold double the first week of Gas Nation. If people knew real soundscan numbers and real budgets then they would know the real definition of a flop. So enjoy the music and just be fans.

Depends on how much the budget was and what kind of deal Livewire has for distribution. If he made profit on under 1000 records sold, then he is a genius.

And are you inferring that those sounscan numbers are somehow "fake"? LOL....riiiiiiiiight.

And you can take your condescending remarks else where. I have been around the music business since the Bay was actually making GOOD music. But thanks for your insight.

I actually control the budget so I do know unlike everybody else on this site and if u knew about the business then u would know u get paid off of shipped not soundscan. And I was not insinuating numbers being fake, I was talking about the soundscan numbers people think other indipendent artist are selling. And if u haven't made or lost money in the music industry in the last 6 months it doesn't matter cuz it has changed that much. It is 2010 not the 90's. That was 20 years ago.

Right, but if you are trying to tell me that Stalin has shipped 20,000-50,000, than you are straight up lying. Stalin is not known outside the Bay like 40 is. Maybe he WILL be paid later, but as it stands now, he has sold less than 1000 albums, period.

Hey, best of luck to him...i hope he succeeds.

We will gladly sounscan in the first week what other artist sell for the duration of their project. The only people who have a problem with that number is people like u on the siccness. The indipendent rap game is a marathon. The major label rap game is a sprint. Let us run our race and don't worry bout Stalin's 40 yard time in a 10k race.

You dont seem like much of a expert either, or the album would have sold over 1000 copies, even mac dre's sales where suprisingly low, for what a huge fanbase he had.

Well I am an expert. And the fact that J Stalin is even being talked about this way proves it. And Mac Dre's numbers are actually incredible but u can never match his impact through sales.

The internet really messed things up with everyone in the world thinking that they are A&R Researchers or Marketing and Promotion Experts.

You have the correct formula. You know that, all the people on this forum that has been successful in this Bay Area rap business from when it was booming (1991-1999) knows you are correct in your formula (thats why they aren't questioning your format) (there are people on here that think 2001-2005 were its best years, ha ha ha ha. Take B-12 and Rob Nones away and there wouldn't of even been Bay Area rap from 2001-2005).

The "INDEPENDENT" rap game is a Marathon race. And first week SOUNDSCAN numbers do not matter unless you are trying to secure an Artist Deal with a Major Label, nor do BDS or Mediabase spins. You have SMC which has Fontana/Universal Distribution behind it. As long as you stick to the Business Plan that you set forth to get your deal and you make those numbers that you stated per project to them to get that deal in the first place that is what matters upfront.

We see Stalin getting shows, we see Stalin doing autograph signings, we see Stalin with the correct representation, we see Lite Brite going hard in the streets on the promotion tip. "YOU" know you got it down to a science, and that is what matters when you lay your head down at night.

Keep Grindin',

Couldn't agree with Thizz more. His analogy of the marathon vs. sprint is a perfect one...when one is independent, you have a lot longer to push a project, especially if it's good ( which again, I really thought this PreNup album was very well put together with plenty of potential ).

My hope to this day is that the folks who say "check out my boy, he's ok at rapping" would just tell their boys to STOP lol. You continue to flood the market with junk and the good products get overlooked due to constant oversaturation. I've been all over America and hands down, the Bay Area has entirely too many bedroom studio rappers.

Thizz has a lot more knowledge than some of you are giving him credit for, I can guarantee you that...

Correct me if I'm wrong but iTunes album sales aren't accounted for in SoundScan right? At a great price like 7.99 I'm sure he got a bunch of album download sales and those wouldn't be factored into a tracking system like SoundScan.

Stalin's shit slaps, and in the end that's all I really give a fuck about. As long as him and Livewire can continue to eat off this rap shit and provide a steady stream of releases for me to knock in my ride that's all that matters to me as a consumer/fan.

be fans and enjoy music and don't worry about all that other shit
it's not like you tell ur boys to check this person out because it sold x amount of cd's who gives a shit. worry about what is on the cd's not who buys them.

and 7.99 is a nice lil deal on itunes like ^ said
