i had a conversation with my aunt about this.

anybody that says you dont need to go to college is technically right. there are plenty of success stories without a college and even a highschool education. but to say a college education isnt beneficial is wrong. the only people that say this are the ones without an education. it will never hurt you, where as not having one can. regardless, had i know what i do now, things would be way different. but it's never too late.

nursing is where the money is. RN. my aunt retires this year making 120,000 a year. she will get that as well in retirement or real close to it i should say. but doing something you like will be more satisfying. you got it right either way.
not sure but i do want to help people and i do like the medical stuff . like i said i wanted to be a firefighter i have family who are firefighters but im keeping my mind and options open . i was talkin to a paramedic the other day he was talkin about traveling nursing

I think the only shit I've learned in college that I won't use in the real world is those complex math equations involving more letters than numbers, LMAO! When it comes down to finances, making money, dealing with real world numbers I'm all good. But when it comes down to 4-x over x-6x+12 + x-2 over 3x-14 divided by 18x-2x+14-3, I HATE MY LIFE! lol.
ha

you should see my econ homework... all the calculus I have to do....shiiiit

if you can't deal with algebra don't go for a business degree...

you do realize the economy is shit and business jobs aren't the hot priority now right?

it's all software, programming, IT shit.

poly sci will get you further than business right now. unless you happen to be in the few spots that are still hiring.....
A general business degree might now get you far, but concentrations/majors such as Accounting, MIS, Integrated Marketing Communications, etc. will get you much farther than almost any liberal arts degree....

good luck finding a job in business administration.... you'll be working in an unrelated field for sure.

Go get a political science degree & doors will open in every corner.
:ermm:

Anyways,

BSBA - Management, CSU - Stanisalus (Dec. 2005)
M.B.A. -Finance, University of Pacific (Dec. 2009 graduation)

Currently interning as a Credit Analyst at a regional bank. Before grad. school, worked at a commercial insurance firm as a property and casualty underwriter.

I must be an exception.

In anycase, to all those out there WITHOUT a college degree - fuck it, do not let that shit hold you back from being successful. There is money to be made in this world (legally), and having a college degree is not a pre-requisitie to making money. Be creative, think outside the box, learn real world knowledge when you can, and get yourself out there.

In the same breathe, do not knock college in any way, shape or form. College is a wealth of knowledge and contacts that you do not have access to, and stats show that those w/ a degree make more money. It is extremely beneficial to have that piece of paper.

My pennies. Take em or leave em.

no comment on your quote, but i'm interested in what your final choice will be....what do you see yourself getting into, school wise?

just abu every degree out there worth having requires some form of hard core math, most of the degrees i'm interested in require at least pre calc to get into the program. The math part is the only thing i'm really worried about. I havnt even put a ton of effort in school latley and have been getting as in most of my classes community college is easy. Im planning on knocking out as much as i can there and transfer to ASU for some form of business degree. I heard its tough to get accepted into ASUs business school but i'm gonna keep my grades up and continue chipping away at my pre reqs and handle my business.

Im thinking about changing my major to a business communications degree, I just dont wanna make the mistake i made the first time i went to school and get a safe broad degree.

yeah ASU has a BA in general studies, I think if i had a ton of credits like that id pinpoint whichever field i had the most credits in and get a degree in that will take you extra time and money but it would be worth it. A general studies degree is looked at the same way as a liberal arts degree

you gotta have some particular field of interest and stick it through the very end.

for example i have a friend super smart, validictorian of his class and everything. goes to ASU wanting to be an archetect or s structural engineer or something like that. got burnt out and ends up going back home to cali where he went to community college FOREVER. He was working in the chemistry lab part time and taking hella classes in that area and ended up having 2 AAs! Transfered to SJSU where he just graduated with the highest level BA in chemical engineering, my homeboy is set. You just have to pick something i guess and stick with it to the end. thats the main thing they look for as far as a degree goes on a resume if it isnt some kind of specified field.

Just get a degree, either one would be fine. While you might not work in the exact field that you get your degree in, that piece of paper will get you a little extra respect, more benefit of the doubt and better opportunities. Anyone who says otherwise is either upset they don't have a degree, or just plain lazy and useless. It might not benefit you to have a degree each and every day, but in the long run it will. Slow and steady wins the race, I promise.

I have a BS in Managerial Economics from UC Davis. I work for the government as a supervisor for a support department, I use things I learned in college every day and I use things I learned in life every minute.

Business Management. I think the worst classes I'm going to have are Research & Evaluation I & II. Then of course there's finance and accounting, but if I keep my head on straight I should be good.

It's going to be a hardcore program. My first class has 3 papers, 2 presentations and a few other misc. assignments...it's a 5 week class. In fact, all of my classes are 5 weeks, 1 night a week, for the next 18 months. Gonna have to buckle down and keep my face in the books.
