Maybe the Bay was becoming too stale. The Majors prolly started looking for a newer sound from other regions. Major Labels dont push Independent artist and keep in mind KMEL & KYLD wasnt promoting local artist to the fullest.

The best way to hunt for Bumble Bee's is to listen for the Buzz, then you collect the honey.

[Mac Mall] This is my opinion[/]

Woah to the naked eye yes. But I was there at mike mosley studio in faiffield hella bay area factors were there and nobody gave dude the time of day. People would always try and over charge him and treated him like an outsider. The bay industry turned there back on him. So I say its 50/50 there. But like I said in my 1st post he showed his whole nation how to do the independent hustle and how much yaeper there was to earn. Then we started to fall our buyers were gone.
No shit? I never heard of this but i wasnt in that mix though. Master P was layin it down makin racks. But he was reppin Rich Town then he was all south. West Coast Bad Boys 1 & 2 probably my top 5 compalations ever.

man i hafta disagree with this shit

i dont even see a point for postin it

if compilations were 100% HEAT.. and were sellin... why would a major label say "thats what they are all about?"

i notice a lot of people on this board doin a lot of talking for major labels and when i look at it i laff pretty hard...

if i made a song called... "no swimmin trunks on" and it pushed my album to 500,000 independently.. please believe i would have deals... not for the product itself.. but for popularity and monitary success

mixtapes aint killin shit
go to rasputins and look at how many bay area CDs are there... and then take a long hard thought about how many of them are actually good

like i always say

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO BLAME ARTISTS/THEIR PRODUCT/AND THERE HUSTLE because somewhere in those 3 is the reason they aint where they.. or you think they should be

K-MEL fucked over bay artists by only playin niggaz that paid em or by only playing signed artists. Remember when KMEL used to play that wack paperboy doo wa diddy shit? Underground niggaz was on the boxx- the video channel- and went that fell off, niggaz did'nt have access to any video outlets.

Master P sold like crazy- so niggaz was puttin out wack compilations wit they homies on it, thinkin that shit would sell- and half these niggaz don't know shit about promotion. Was'nt no myspace back then-Master P had the south buyin his shit, cuz they support local artist out there. That was his edge.

KMEL did'nt fuck wit mac dre till he died. How fucked up is dat??

Problem is, most of them weren't 100 % heat.
so then thats their fault

99% of these niggaz albums out here aint CLOSE to 100% heat neither (my opinion).. so whats the point?

u cant blame a medium of musical output (like compilations or mixtapes) as a reason to why a region fell off... it just makes no sense... there aint (least it shouldnt be, shit) no slack cut dependin on if its a compilation, mixtape or album... people will support whatever they feel is worth they $$$ and thats how it is with every business ever known to man

I heard niggaz did the fool at the source awards-tow it up and whatnot a few years back, plus Big git killed out there in LA,( on top of the low quality compilations),maybe the major labels was too scared to deal with us around that time. Pac got killed and everybody was on that thug shit.

Puffy blew up around that time with that happy shit.

I agree the hyphy shit is more radio friendly- i ain't mad at em for fuckin' wit us now, but damn, it had to be some niggaz out there with somethin' that they could fuck with.
I think the whole radio industry is shady. Davey D got a whole investigation on that shit on www.daveyd.com.

i know that
if u wanna be on radio.. theres certain things u gon have to do

so if you want to be on radio... either you DO those... and hope u get on radio.. or do your own thing and hope u get on radio

& if u DONT get on radio.. shit thats just part of the game (theres plenty of bay artists with tracks from popular bay producers.. featuring a popular bay rapper, that still aint gon get played ever on air).. those who ddiscouraged by lack of radio play seem foolish as fuck

thats like hoop players dissin the NBA when they cant make it.. but u aint gon never see that

Pointing the finger elsewhere makes no sense. The Bay dropped the ball because we weren't handling business right. If you make a bad product your customers won't buy it. If you don't market and promoye your product well your customers won't know its available. And if your product is not creative then whats the need for it.

The Bay fell off because our music quality was poor. Artisit weren't creative. We did not promote ourselves well. And we didn't do shows. The artist in the Bay got complacent and happy with the chump change they was making recycling verses, while other regions saw the potential of a real rap hustle.

What killed the bay? Our midwest and south clientle. As soon as they found out they had there own to support to hear about there region they stopped buying our records.

We never droped the ball we just lost our support......
So True! The south started rollin hard with bay shit around mid to late 90's. Blegit 'ghetto smile' got play and thats was it from the bay getting played in the south. Plus, Masta P blowin up and not bringing nobody recongnizable from the bay to the table.
