Anybody following the A's this year?

They need to get rid of Mecir, Rincon and Rhodes ASAP... Especially Mecir and Rhodes these guys are past the end of their career. They need another setup guy and a closer. They could use someone better than Bradford too. They just brought up Lehr from AAA where he's been closing games and doing good, I don't know why they didn't bring him in today. They need to get rid of Macha too, he doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
Today LA said they aren't trying to trade talent away so I dunno about Mota, but there's an article coming out in tomorrows paper (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/06/20/AS.TMP) where Schott says they're gonna give Beane more money for a better bullpen. Also, Arthur Rhodes was a no show today. Hopefully it's a mutual plan of getting him out of his contract with a no show clause or something, that would free up a lot of money too, he has a $9.2 million dollar contract and doesn't perform.
i must agree - the bullpen is horrible
upside: the offense is better than expected, especially since chavez went down - hattenberg has been stepping up lately and scuturo, crosby. miller, redman have been solid
downside: bullpen of course - Zito has been getting rocked this first half

Bradford is good for about an inning, he would be good in the pen just as a setup guy or when they're behind, but he shouldn't be closing games. They should get rid of Hammond too... If they got rid of Mecir, Rincon and Rhodes, and then got another 2 good setup guys and a good closer they could dominate, we gotta see what management can do though. Nobody's gonna want Mecir or Rincon and Rhodes has a huge 3-year contract that nobody's gonna wanna pick up.
Yeah they're doing better than I would have thought after losing Guillen, Foulke and Tejada, losing Foulke has been the only one that's hurt em. I would have rather kept Tejada but Crosby has held his own.
I think having Chavez out of that #3 spot is helping their offense. When they bring him back they should put him in at like #6, #7 or #8. He grounds into a lot of double plays and is only hitting like .230 or something I think, he's a rally killer.

As many close games as the A's have lost this year, i am surprised they have as good of a record as they do. Not only can we use a closer and some new relievers, we can also use another big bat in the lineup, someone who can hit more homeruns, everytime the A's play a good team like these past 2 series it seems there offense is almost non-existant and thats the thing ive worried the most this year,

Never really had a decent bullpen. We got pitching but no damn good relivers. We had a sick closer in Keith Foulke but of course we let that fool skip town. One thing that is good about the A's organization is even though they are shady with money, they seem to know which no name players to pick up a contribute to the team....but not pitching wise
Dye and Chavez can hit em out of the park, but yeah, an intimidating HR leader like a Bonds, Thome, Griffey, or Pujols would be nice. They have some decent hitters right now though, Durazo & Hatteberg are over .300 and Kotsay, Dye & Byrnes are pretty close to it so I think their hitting is good enough to just focus on picking up some guys for the bullpen. Even if they don't score a lot of runs, they have good starting pitchers and with a good bullpen they could shut other teams down.
We are in first place! Well tied anyway, but yeah they would be way out in front if they didn't blow all those games (I think it's 13 or 14 now.)
This is what the starters wins-losses would look like if we had a bullpen that could have saved those games:
Hudson would be 10-2
Mulder would be 11-2
Zito would be 6-4
Redman would be 7-3
Instead this is what they look like:
Hudson is 7-2
Mulder is 8-2
Zito is 4-4
Redman is 5-3
