LOL, get that junk out of here. Linux is tons better in the stability department. You can make your Linux desktop look better than Linux.

Vista is on par with Windows ME.

If you really want to run Windows XP, get a netbook. The Acer one is around 300 bucks and runs XP like a charm.
i don't know what windows ME is?
what are you calling junk?
why are you acting like an os elitist?

Windows ME is Windows Millenium...it came out after Windows 2000. You will be hard pressed to find drivers for most everything if you somehow find a ME install disk.

2000 was targeted for business, while ME was targeted for home users. XP combined them both.

Linux is not for everyone, especially the computer illiterate. Just stick with Windows-based OS and youll be fine.

Im leaning towards a dell notebook with xp. i need to decide pretty soon.
what i realized is every damn notebook comes with vista for the most part. so im wondering what really are the problems with vista. because if vista were that bad none of the notebooks would sell. can anyone elaborate on the problems with vista from personal experience? thanks again.
Well, they offer XP downgrades...for a price. As a matter of fact, some lady is suing MS for that exact reason...its actually turned into a class-act suit.

People DEAL with Vista because most folks do not know how to downgrade. If you do not know what youre doing, you will fuck your PC up, in a sense. Most folks have just ACCEPTED Vista...

Vista takes up MORE hardware resources, has bugs in many of its features (causing them to not work right), and it isnt very user friendly if you dont know shit about it. Its new security features are extremely annoying.

YOU MEAN THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY SOMEONE TO DOWNGRADE IT PROPERLY?
IF I GET IT CUSTOMIZED FROM DELL IT SHOULD WORK PERFECT RIGHT?

Not everyone wants to deal with the hassle/cost of a downgrade, so they just deal with it. Perfect example: my mom. I had to PRY it out of her hands to get Vista OFF her laptop.

Yes, Dell will handle it properly. Except for the fact that they charge you a note to get XP on their. What a jip.

I prefer XP over Vista, but isn't XP limited to 3Gigs of memory?

I want to buy a new computer too, but I ain't looking for no Vista machine, I can't stand that OS. XP is just fine. I guess I might as well wait for Windows7. When is it coming out though?

XP/VIsta x86 (32-bit) can only recgonize 3.25 GB of RAM.

x64 (64-bit) OS's can utilize I believe up to 32 GB as of right now. Linux is supposed to limitless.

ok again thanks for all the info

im gonna be buying this today because sales tax is going up tomorrow

what do you guys think of this deal?

price-$728 before tax

i'll get:

599-(dell ispiron15 with xp)+ (dual processor)50+ 79 (15 mos. of antivirus pre-installed)=728

im also considering getting:
dell inspiron 13(vista)-400+79(antivirus 1 yr)+50 (dual processor)+ ( extra memory 50 )=578

which would you guys get between these two considering the difference of $150.00
im leaning towards the more expensive one with xp but keep in mind im only using it for web browsing and word processing and think the less expensive might work also
