Another Boxing Tragedy

On the undercard of the Erik Morales Marco Antonio Barrera fight, Fernando Montiel defeated unbeating WBO superflyweight champion Perdo "Rockero" Alcazar. The fight was stopped after Montiel landed 15 unanswered punches. Alcazar stayed in Vegas and watched the main event and went around sight seeing in Vegas the next day. On his way back to his home in Panama, he collapsed in the Las Vegas airport and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors declared him brain dead soon after. He is still alive, but only a miracle can save him now.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

He has passed away this afternoon, so that decision will not have to be made to pull the plug. Very sad, I hope he had a great time Sunday enjoying Vegas. The time thing is just crazy, how he could be fine for a day and a half and die just like that. But I know when a blood clot hits the brain its usually not good.

that is very sad.....I didnt see the fight or dont recall seeing him box ever.

I wonder if the ref would of stopped the fight a little sooner, if that would of helped out....15 punches seems pretty excessive......i would like to see the fight so i could form my own opinion, i have seen fights stopped alot sooner from what was being said above

Grim, it actually wasnt that bad of a stoppage, and these are the little guys to. I have the fight on tape and watched it again after he died, its tuff to second guess.

HBO should be showing the fight soon on their channels, it didnt take long for them to start showing lewis tyson so hopefully I will be able to peep it

Yup, his brother's name is Vitaly. Wladimir is better though. A lot of talk going around that if he gets by Mercer, Lewis could be next.

E-dubb, I got a decent collection. My guy back east has over 1500 fights on tape. A lot of folks dont respect Sweet Pea for the all time great he is. I got him up there in the top 20 at least maybe top 10 right off the top of my head. By far he is the best defensive fighter over the last 30 years.
