The first emergence of civilization is questionable.. Most scholars probably agree that Mesopotamia was first. A civilization found in the fertile crescent in a land that we now know as Iraq. Others say the Indus Valley civilization in Northern India, and some say Egypt/Nubia. All on the eastern side of the hemisphere...

The Sumerians came on the scene around 4 - 5000 BC.. They developed the first written language, agriculture, religion, and also created something we use commonly up until this day, the wheel!

The Indus Valley reigned around 3500 to 1300 BC in Northern India. They were credited with creating the first advanced irrigation systems and even evidence of early plumbing systems. A lot of scholars believe that the origins of racism actually began here.. Much evidence suggests that the Dravidians(a dark skinned race of people in southern India resembling the Aboriginals of Austrailia) are direct descendants of the people of the Indus Valley civilization, while the mixed Aryans of today's Northern India(the ones we've all come to know) are direct descendants of invaders who used a cad system to expel them from their land.

Egypt, the most well known of these civilizations is believed to have begun around 4,000 BC, but wasn't unified until around 3100 BC under the pressure of Narmer. Famous for the pyramids, sphinx, and countless other achievements, this was one of the longest lasting nations to sustain its self continuously next to Ethiopia and China. Nubia, it's neighbor to the South was a very prosperous nation of people, and is said by some to have "kick started" Egyptian civilization. Many of them looked the same, held the same beliefs, customs, and religions.. Maybe the only huge difference between them is that Nubia didn't allow as many invasions. Nubia is the only ancient nation to be invaded by Rome(in its hey day) and not be conquered. Rome was forced to settle for a peace treaty, basically being ran out by a woman, as Nubia was a matriarchal society and at that time was ran by a Queen(which I find kind of funny, lol)..

Honorable mention to Greece and Rome, even though they practically stole 80% of their knowledge from Egypt, but hey, whatever..

Why did I write all of this shit? I don't even know ya'll, guess I'm just bored and feel like talking about ancient history and civilization. Any one have any input, like info on the Mayans, Incas, people of ancient Ghana, China, Japan, etc...

^^they only teach western european ideals. I tried to take an eastern humanities class but they do not offer it here.

Japanese people as well as most asian people descend from the China area. It really depends on how you believe. I think that when God split the continents the people were made to adapt. It really is a mystery. Good post.

Thanx guys. And yea, there is a major western bias in American class rooms, that's why I chose to focus more on the eastern side of things, this is where western civilization acquired most of their science, math, knowledge, and religion from anyways, but the schools don't mention it too much. You should always start with the foundation, not Greece and Rome, or Britain and France, they came so late in the game it's ridiculous.

And nice theory on adaptation Rob S4! There's similar theories like that in anthropology actually, so you're on to something.

I believe it was Mesopotamia AkA Iraq that was the "cradle of civilization"

Reasons: Its where we get The Garden of Eden, the first people (Adam & Eve). Satans first appearance, Nineveh, the Tower of Babel.

My thoughts...

Is that actually where the garden of eden was? I think that's up for speculation.. Some believe that it was there, some say Ethiopia, I honestly have no idea.

I believe that it was in or near current day Ethiopia personally(The Garden Of Eden that is).. Not based on the Bible, but from recent evidence.

That's why I say Egypt, because Mesopotamia was nothing but a rut of an area full of farmers and Ziggurats.. Yea, they made the wheel but that's it. Egypt did so many countless things I don't even feel like going over them right now.

ParkBoyz...check out the thread "open your eyes" around post # 605 or so...Heresy posted a link about Sumerian culture and some other stuff, very interesting reading.

By the way, if you're the first civilization to do something, that says a lot. Whether or not other civilizations after Sumeria improved or not, makes no difference to the contributions that Sumeria made.

I believe this too. @Nav I think you must have it confused with Noah's Ark, which is located in Mt. Ararat which is a mountain located near Iraq.

I was being sarcastic by diminishing Sumeria's accomplishments, I'm perfectly aware that they have "what seems" to be the first written language, urban settlements, and organized military campaigns among other things, but someone in here asked me something along the lines of, what constitutes as civilization. And my personal answer was Egypt. I had to present this very claim in a college debate a few years back on Ancient Civilization. We had to imagine that a Hindu god (forgot her name) was going to destroy the entire ancient world, with the exception of one nation in order to rebuild the modern world. In a class of about 20-25 people, we had split up into pairs and groups and effectively argue which civilization/nation shall be spared, which one, out of several civilizations was the most beneficial to mankind. Of course I chose Egypt and paired up with this white dude, and of course we won! Haha, raised my grade an entire 100 points.. Doesn't prove anything, but just giving you some perspective, it really does boil down to what you consider a "civilized nation" to be..

Simply do a contrast study between Egypt and Mesopotamia and you may hold the same view as me. If not, opinions are like assholes, and you know how the rest goes.

Thanx bruh.. All in all I do respect Mesopotamia and their achievements, as I do China's, India's, Meso-America's, Sub-Saharan Africa's, and Europe's.. I'll read that now tho..
