AMD VS. INTEL PROCESSOR?

was thinkin bout swoopin this comp, but read the graphics card is kinda shitty but i doubt im a really play comp games on it until the new star craft comes out

Pound for pound ....Intel. But you can get some AMD chips and boards that are just as good and cheap. Depends on what you doing. for the most part if you not doing HEAVY gaming....you won't notice a difference. However, there are a lot of sales going around with first Generation Dual core chips in them like the "Pentium D" or "Core Duo" instead of Core2 Duo chips in them. Those are not as fast as the current Dual Cores and power hungry if you are on a laptop. Before you buy, look up the model of whatever it is and research it.
I'd personally go with Intel. There's a reason why all the best comps use Intel chips, it's pretty much a standard these days interms of power computing. AMD is cheaper in price though. I'd say their both solid, but Intel stands out ahead. I'm going to buy a new comp soon or build one for music production and I'm definitely going with an Intel Chip.
Yeah I heard the i7 is pretty damn good after reading about it in music production forums. The benchmarks were good from what I was reading. In terms of making music, it out performed other CPUs if your thing was to use a lot of audio samples. Not sure about other stuff though like internet, gaming, video, photo editing,etc...
BTW, what does the i7 name stand for? Is the 7 for the upcoming windows 7?

The cheapest i7 is $300...the 920 which runs at 2.66 GHZ. It uses QPI instead of FSB, so it is much faster trasnfereing data. It has 4 cores, of which eash has 2 threads...so you get a total of 8 threads. It ias 3 levels of cache-L3 has 8 MB.
The main setback of the 920 and 940 is that they dont OC very well. The Extreme edition of the i7 is 3.2 GHZ and apparently has NO limitations on it...so you can OC the shit out of it. It also costs over $1000.
