which one is better yeah I googled and compared, but know some folks here are computer smart leaning more towards gettin a computer with a AMD processor. I had a sony vaio but it died it wont load up all the way just keeps restartin second time a sony vaio has died on me after 3 years of use.

Pound for pound ....Intel. But you can get some AMD chips and boards that are just as good and cheap. Depends on what you doing. for the most part if you not doing HEAVY gaming....you won't notice a difference. However, there are a lot of sales going around with first Generation Dual core chips in them like the "Pentium D" or "Core Duo" instead of Core2 Duo chips in them. Those are not as fast as the current Dual Cores and power hungry if you are on a laptop. Before you buy, look up the model of whatever it is and research it.

AMD is still good, ive built all my computers with AMD chips.. theyre cheaper too. Intel people use for more media related stuff, and AMD for gaming.. but ive used AMD for video editing, music production and other stuff just fine.

I'd personally go with Intel. There's a reason why all the best comps use Intel chips, it's pretty much a standard these days interms of power computing. AMD is cheaper in price though. I'd say their both solid, but Intel stands out ahead. I'm going to buy a new comp soon or build one for music production and I'm definitely going with an Intel Chip.

Intel > AMD for gaming

Intel, hands down, is the best performer, especially when it comes to the quad-cores. The new i7 Cores are the SHIT. Im actually posting using an i7 right the fuck now.

how is the i7? i heard its like having 8 cores cause of the threading... ima build my a desktop soon and im thinking if i should pick the cheapest i7 or an similar price core2 duo...

Yeah I heard the i7 is pretty damn good after reading about it in music production forums. The benchmarks were good from what I was reading. In terms of making music, it out performed other CPUs if your thing was to use a lot of audio samples. Not sure about other stuff though like internet, gaming, video, photo editing,etc...

BTW, what does the i7 name stand for? Is the 7 for the upcoming windows 7?

The cheapest i7 is $300...the 920 which runs at 2.66 GHZ. It uses QPI instead of FSB, so it is much faster trasnfereing data. It has 4 cores, of which eash has 2 threads...so you get a total of 8 threads. It ias 3 levels of cache-L3 has 8 MB.

Yeah I heard the i7 is pretty damn good after reading about it in music production forums. The benchmarks were good from what I was reading. The main setback of the 920 and 940 is that they dont OC very well. The Extreme edition of the i7 is 3.2 GHZ and apparently has NO limitations on it...so you can OC the shit out of it. It also costs over $1000.

i7 stands for the series of intel cores--it is the 7th series of cores they have put out.

Here are the features:

  • The new LGA 1366 socket is incompatible with earlier processors.
  • On-die memory controller: the memory is directly connected to the processor.
  • Three channel memory: each channel can support one or two DDR3 DIMMs. Motherboards for Core i7 have four (3+1) or six DIMM slots instead of two or four, and DIMMs should be installed in sets of three, not two.
  • Support for DDR3 only.
  • No ECC support.
  • The front side bus is replaced by QuickPath interface. Motherboards must use a chipset that supports QuickPath. As of 5 December 2008 (2008 -12-05)[update], Intel, EVGA, ASUS, MSI, Foxconn, Supermicro, and Gigabyte have all released X58 motherboards, all supporting the i7's LGA1366 Socket interface.
  • Single-die device: all four cores, the memory controller, and all cache are on a single die.
  • "Turbo Boost" technology allows all active cores to intelligently clock themselves up in steps of 133 MHz over the design clock rate as long as the CPU's predetermined thermal and electrical requirements are still met.[11] This mode isn't enabled when the CPU is manually over-clocked by the user.
  • Re-implemented Hyper-threading. Each of the four cores can process two threads simultaneously, so the processor appears to the OS as eight CPUs. This feature was present in the older NetBurst architecture but was dropped in Core.
  • On-die, shared, inclusive 8MB L3 cache.
  • Only one QuickPath interface: not intended for multi-processor motherboards.
  • 45nm process technology.
  • 731M transistors.
  • Sophisticated power management can place an unused core in a zero-power mode.
  • Support for SSE4.2 & SSE4.1 instruction sets.

The i7 do NOT support ECC, however.

The i7 supports triple-channel memory...which is the SHIT. You can also run a 3-way SLI video card formation.

Make sure you pay em the 1/8th after the computers built, You dont need hella cheetoh crumbs in your motherboard and shit, lol
lmao good advice

i smoked with my TV instaler guy once and he ended up ZIP TYING my dish onto my balcony lmao the next repair guy who came almost died laughin when we told him what happened
