Its been a min but I dont recall him actually not trying to get a first down. It was more of an example as to why a QB would take a hit.
Yeah, I get it.. But I think our memories are playing tricks on one of us, because I truly do not recall Garcia avoiding a hit when he wasn't supposed to.

I remember that whenever there was pressure on Garcia, that the play was basically over. A pass rush was Garcia's worst nightmare.
I remember Garcia scrambling from sacks and making plays. In fact, I don't even have to try and remember it because he's still doing it in Tampa Bay. All we have to do is watch a Buccs game.

Garcia had his moments where he looked like shit, just like every other QB in history. The season is too long for a QB to never make mistakes.. And that goes for all the greats, Montana and Young included.

He was old but if he was worth it they wouldve kept him. Having a elite QB would be perfect for any rebuilding process.
Well first of all, the Niners proved they had no idea what the hell was going on when they released him. The next year we were 2-14 and ended up with the #1 draft pick, so that right there should tell you that logic was out the window with our front office. We lost a lot of good players that were "worth it" and that made us the joke of the league.

I wanted him to be better then Montana and Young but it didnt workout that way.
Not too many people are gonna be better than Montana or Young homie, so you're gonna be disappointed with a lot of Niner QBs in the future if that's what you expect out of them.

My issue with him is probably just that, he wasnt Manning/Favre/Brady/Montana/Young and as a 49er fan I wanted them to be a Super Bowl contending team. I felt that with Garcia, they would never get there.
Well here's the thing.. Garcia did not make a lot of mistakes. Our team as a whole was just not good enough to get there. Garcia got shit done, he had good numbers and very little mistakes. He put up points and led the team very well, we just didn't have a good enough squad overall. I really don't think you can place the blame on Jeff Garcia because he did not hurt the team in any way.

The thing that I see different from Smith and Garica, is that Alex tries to keep the play alive and to me Garcia didnt. To me what makes or breaks a QB is how they deal with pressure.
No offense, but have you seen Alex under pressure? He panicks, real bad. Garcia would run around just like Alex, but he always seemed to find a way to either get the ball to a receiver or get rid of it, rather than take a sack or throw an INT, or in Alex's case, get hit and fumble. They have very similar styles, they are scrambling QBs. I don't see where you're seeing this difference between them..
