just to lace yall a lil bit, about the government and taps and cell phones etc, the fact is that the NSA (national security agency) has a compter system at Fort Meade on the east coast which listens to all phone calls whether wireless or hardline....its is programmed to record any call and put into storage for analysis by agents any call where anyone says a keyword that has been entered into the system....say bomb, osama, taliban, president, assasinate, senator, iraq, saddam, allah, etc, or say key phrases like george bush, world trade center, saudi arabia, middle east, saddam hussein, etc and your under investigation just like that. your address, phone number and an upclose satellite image of where you made the call is recorded as well. someone on here said in a different post that it would be an invasion of privacy to just tap your phone without your knowledge, they dont gotta tap anything. all cell phones and cordless phones have 1 of 10 codes implanted within that allow anyone with a scanner and the codes to listen in to your phone calls. they can legally snatch your call from the airwaves and while they cant use it against you in court, they can use it to open an investigation and recieve a warrant to tap your phone legally and what they get after that they can use against you in a court of law. however anything you do, whether you were convicted or even arrested, will go into your file with the IAO ( information awareness office ) which under bush, is currenly constructing a computer system to record everything you do from what grocerys you buy, your favorite foods, your favorite beer, to where you pump gas at and what grade of gas you use in your car to your spending habits, to who you e-mail, what you e-mail, what you type, what you look at on the net, and every keystoke you make recorded, to who you call on your phone so they can know who you associate with and so on, and create a personal profile on every american. supposedly it is to determine who is a threat to public safety and/or national security, but it can basically be used by any government agency to help build a case on you or start an investigation without any warrants and its completely legal under whats called secret findings which are executive orders by the president, which are then reviewed by and approved by the secret intelligence court inside the capitol building, which handles all secret laws and directives, and also prosecutions of CIA, DOD, NSA, and DHD policy makers and secret agents. it doesnt matter what telephone service you use, its all linked to the government. the more technology you use, the easier you are to track. example is the unabomber ted kazinzcki, who hated technology and lived in a cabin with no power or running water and with nothing in his name he was impossible for the government to find until his brother snitched him out. for 17 years he went undetected because there was nothing for the government to go on without him using things like atm's, credit cards, insurance, medical, electricity, etc. nobody is safe unless they live like lumberjacks and cavemen....or unless they know the tricks of the government. unless your doing something wrong, dont worry about it, but if you are, you should never talk about your business over the phone or computer whether e-mail or message boards. if you gotta do business long distance, set up a code talk by sending the code words to the person your doing business with using regular mail and then talk over the phone using those. theres ways to beat the system, you just gotta use your head...good luck....our gov is turning commie

I dont know if our government is turning commie, that is a leftist perspective whereas the new policies on civil liberties are quite right wing republican.
The bottom line with the policy is, its all good if its gonna fight terrorism. When its not all good is when they use this technology to fight something else...for example, a person bragging about marijuana use is screened and arrested. And a policy that starts with terrorism could evolve to stop whatever the government feels like. Whether that is the underlying goal of the government or not is still in question to me...personally, I am against the new policy.
Another thing you gotta ask is, do we really want to spend all this money. Of course, national security is a high priority, but this policy is very expensive in terms of enforcement and technology during a time where our economy is the fuckin shits and crime is up 7.5% in California. Gray Davis just had to cut like $23 bilion (a lot in education) to balance our budget. Texas/Enron/Bush associates owe Californians a lot of money that isnt going to be seen, and tax money isnt gonna make up for the cuts in education we are seeing, neither is the government using tax revenues to support terrorism.

Yeah-An article in the Oakland Tribune reported that some lady got arrested at the courthouse a few months ago & held for terrorist threats for sayin she had to "drop a bomb" in the toilet... They let her go after they proved to themselves she only meant she had 2 poo. No joke--That was for real headline news.
