Gang of four robs two, botches third robbery in Richmond

Four teens in a stolen car likely robbed two people before someone shot up their vehicle, prompting a crash and their arrest, Richmond police said Tuesday.
The robberies began about 5:30 p.m. Monday, when a woman on the 3500 block of Esmond Avenue lost her wallet to the group. They approached as she stood in her front yard and, before she could escape, they pulled handguns.
She told officers that they left in a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz.
Then about 6:30 p.m., a similar group accosted a man sitting in his car near 34th Street and Rheem Avenue. They rifled his pockets and took a cell phone, police said.
At 6:53 p.m., residents on the 300 block of South 38th Street called to report gunfire. Officers found that someone fired several dozen rounds, riddling a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz that caused it to crash into a house on the 400 block.
The four occupants tried to run, but patrol officers quickly arrested them nearby.
"Nobody got hurt," Lt. Mike Gormley said. "There was a firearm recovered, but it doesn't appear that it was fired."
Detectives surmise that the suspects tried to rob somebody else, with catastrophic results.
The house and the car, a stolen vehicle from Solano County, were both badly damaged. Police continued to investigate Tuesday who shot the car, and why.
Police arrested the suspects -- Richmond residents Terrance Jones, Damon Crawford and Jamon Ward, all 18, along with a 17-year-old -- on
