you have to remember....this is by popularity. That album was a side project that they did...

they didnt even promote it..
the single just took off...so MTV had no choice but to show it....since all the kids wanted to see it..

so 700,000 cd sales for a small independant album...
THATS A LOT OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no offense, but west coast rap just ain't appealing to white america anymore imo..or to the kids out there..the west coast image has been done over so many times, people already know what we gone say before we say it..we need to really re-invent ourselves and come anew...
the pople that are buyin albums ar ekids now..all the songs are geared towards the teenage demographic..alos you gotta factor in we are in a recession, and people dont have extra money to buy cd's. when i was 16, which was in 96, when my parents gave me allowance, i went to buy cd's. nowadays kids rather get new gear, and they will download there favorite cd instead. times have changed, so has music...the quality of music has decreased DRAMTICALLY!!!! i was just bumpin redman - dare iz a darkside..damn when i first bought that album was back in 94..shit still sounds tight...musicians ain't doin music from the heart no more..its all about the money, makin a hit..gettin spins...just my two cents

Most likely the same reason that E-40 is claiming gold status but is at 398,567 as of 08/23.

They must have shipped Platinum which gets you certified. I'm not 100% sure this is the deal with Gnarls Barkley's album but that's my guess.
