6 killed in shootings around the Bay Area
Matthew B. Stannard, Chronicle Staff Writer

Saturday, June 30, 2007

(06-30) 18:03 PDT -- Police in Richmond, Oakland and San Francisco are investigating homicides that occurred in their cities Friday and Saturday, leaving a total of six people dead and others injured.

The first incident happened just after 11 p.m. Friday in Richmond when officers were summoned to a double shooting in the area of Ninth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Police Lt. Michael Booker said Rodney Lee, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the back was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Another shooting took place less than an hour later at 1205 Filbert St., where a male victim was found and taken to a local hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition, Booker said. He said it is unknown if the shootings, about a mile apart, were related, and police have no witnesses.

The shootings did not seem to lessen attendance at community events in Richmond Saturday, Booker said, including a Community Peace and Sports Jamboree and a community build day at Shields-Reid Park.

Richmond Detective Darryl Graham can be reached about the case at 510-621-1276 or homicide detectives at 510-620-6612. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call 510-232-TIPS.

A few minutes before the second shooting was reported in Richmond, Oakland police responded to a call at 11:41 p.m. Friday of a homicide in the 9400 block of Plymouth Street in their city. An adult man was found dead of a gunshot wound at the scene.

Another man was killed in Oakland Saturday in the 4600 block of Fairfax Avenue and was found by officers responding to a report of a shooting at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Another shooting was reported about the same time at 77th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, leaving a victim injured. Police said they did not yet know if the shootings were related.

Oakland police can be reached about the shootings at 510-238-3821 or via the anonymous Crime Stoppers line at 510-238-6946.

Meanwhile, San Francisco police are investigating two shootings in the same time period. In the first one, a man was discovered dead by an officer on patrol near the intersection of 16th and Seventh streets on the edge of Potrero Hill at 12:18 a.m. Saturday. A second homicide was reported to police about 4:20 a.m. at Fitch Street and Innes Avenue in the Hunters Point neighborhood. Responding officers found two men dead by the road. The cause of their deaths and their identities were not immediately available.
