Alternates and reserves are two different things.

Reserves are the backups who actually PLAY in the Pro Bowl.

Alternates get invited in case someone decides not to go, gets injured, etc.

Alternates do not count as Pro bowlers.

The 9ers have 4 Alternates, which means they will get the nod in case someone drops out of the roster for the pro bowl.
