I am curious what the fans out there would prefer... Let's say the artist has their own website. Would you rather buy a $5 mp3 download of the album or for $10 have the CD shipped to your door?

On a side note, what would you like to see on the website? (example: one free song DL from the album, a media player to preview samples of all the songs, etc)

Would anyone like to see the album available in .wav format for $5 download?

I know what you mean! What do you think about $10 for the CD to your door and you also get the entire album in mp3 for free with the purchase (immediate gratification?) Thanks for the feedback Dome.

I'd rather pay the $10 plus shipping,in my opinion i think it's better to own the actual album,IF YOU'RE A TRUE COLLECTOR,but if i just wanted the music only i be cheap about it and just pay $5 and enjoy it that way.
AND GOING DIGITAL IS GOING TO BE A VERY SAD THING,WE'LL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE A GREAT ALBUM WITH INSERTS & ALL THE PRODUCTION NOTES.

Then I start buying vinyl again.
hahaha 4sho bro. digital succs if u want physical stuff for collections, but for us artists its a really good thing. u see if we dont need manufacturing, then we dont need record companys at an executive level. therefore no middlemen and a strong increase in profit 2 the artist. being that artists singed to major lables make hardly anything off record sales, they can really only earn on the road by performing and selling appearances and merchandise. with the changeover artists can manage and contain thenselves by earning 100 percent of those engagements plus a huge increase on the sale of their music(50 cents for a hard copy sale after deductions compared to 90 percent of a digital download). people have said 4 years that the downloading era would kill the record companies and destroy the industry. from the standpoint of an industry exec this is true, but in the end we will be better off without them. tech n9ne is light years ahead of the game.

Good point deep6cixxx6. You have to stay ahead of the game and not get left behind, right?
well yeah.and thats what makes tech who he is. him and his team are completely self contained. he does all his own merchandising and touring and there fore is able 2 do what he does without any major pop outlet support. when was the last time u turned on bet or mtv and saw a tech n9ne video? now do the math on that compared to his record sales and annual income! that man is set to outlast the game.

I can understand that. But there are also differences between fans of different artists and music genres. A lot of fans of C-Way, Madesicc (underground rap shit) are collectors and like to support these underground artists. A lot of the times do I feel though, that most of these underground labels don't know how to profit from their fan base. Every couple months, somebody on this site brings up the old Siccmade jerseys they used to sell 10 - 12 years ago. Many fans would like to buy merchandise, but they can't, cause it is not available. Then there are fans who buy music directly, but never get any product. Then it seems that more and more underground rappers try to make themselve appeal more to the mainstream by choosin beats etc.! This all comes to these artists loosing their original fan base who bought everything and even if the rapper was just featured on some unknown dudes CD, to maybe gaining more fans, who at the other hand just dl it for free.

Techn9ne is ahead, because he gives his fans what they want imo. He puts out music frequently, he tours, he is close to his fans, he doesn't fuck over his own fans, he provides merchandise etc.!
But when you look at that, then you should realize, that it is not that difficult to do that shit. It is like running a company. You can't have people in charge who are always high and/or drunk. Madesicc is only still living because of Lynch's hardcore fans. Right now, they are on the verge of loosing these fans though imo. I really hope that Starnge can help Lynch to get them back!

exactly bro. its up 2 the artist and lable 2 make sure the fan is satisfied. so when the cds go out they must be replaced by something else(merch).
now look. even if tech never sold another album, he would still be ok, right?
he would still sell out venues all over the world, he would still sell merchandise, he would still be tech. fans know what they r getting when the purchase a ticcet 2 a tech show. these artists need 2 make themselves more complete than just tight recording artists. u have 2 be available in more ways than that. as far as not filling orders, i know who u talkin about and thats bullshit. when an artists starts 2 think that they dont need the fan supports they r done. some people think they can sell based on the name, which is possible, but will decrease every time. bone thugs sold millions of albums on e99 right? everything they sold after that was pretty much based on the strength of that. but sales get lower and lower. u have 2 give people a reason 2 give u their money.
