i don't think he meant General Education (i.e. High School), i think he meant more of special courses (i.e. courses for graphic design, video editing, etc.)...

I know there are very talented people that arent educated, but more than likely educated people understand more about business than self-taught people, its kinda me asking for proffessional minded people, hence education required, and they would need to know the techniqual side of this field, not just the entertainment side, i know there are a few educated people around here that just need a good shot to showcase their talent. I wanna see resumes, put down on paper what u really know.

Personally I think a person's Work Experience in a career field is much more important than their education, just because someone took a class or two doesn't mean they have the full experience which is essential to doing their job, they have the insight, that's why most courses offer real world education, you get the best of both sides. So what someone knows and what someone has done are two completely different things; hence if you can't apply what you have learned then you are wasting your time, and others.

My suggestion is that you look for the big cats, who have been in the business for more than just a few years, who have seen all sides and aspects of the business and know what is required to get the job done, and if you check their rap sheet I bet 80% of them will be self made. I'd pick a business savvy over a professional educated student any day.

THE FUNNY THING IS HOW PEOPLE ASSUME STUDENTS ARE "BUSINESS SAVVY". HAHA
JUST CUZ SOME DUMB FUCK KID WENT TO SCHOOL LIKE HIS MOMS TOLD HIM TOO, DOESNT MEAN HE KNOWS SHIT ABOUT BUSINESS. IT JUST MEANS HE DOES HIS HOMEWORK AND KNOWS HOW TO CATCH THE BUS.

MULTIMEDIA DESIGN COURSES ARE NOT HAND IN HAND WITH BUSINESS 101. IF YOU ARE ATTENDING COLLEGE FOR A SPECIFIC TRADE OR SKILL, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE WORKING FOR SOMEBODY ELSE IF YOU GET A JOB AT ALL. GOOD LUCK TO THE 9-5'ers

Good point Upheaval. Look at people like Essqubed, Shemp, Evil Wayz, and so on. Neither of them went to school for graphic design, but look at how good their work is and successful they are. Only thing going to school does it put your skills on paper. I guarantee you, any trade like graphic design, web design or anything of that nature...you can spend those same 2-4 years u would spend in college learning it on your own, and still be able to do it as a person who went to school to learn it.

But do you notice that the people that are down talking education are the ones that have none, alot of designers do not know how to deal with the printers and i see alot of designers still doing their layouts in Photoshop, well i guess some of u may not be ready for a real job, you guys have some really good points and i know all that shit cus ive probly done graphics longer than most of ya'll, theres some tight fools on this site, but a rebutle about im tight and i didnt go to scholl doesnt cut it, okay ima put it this way if you think youre worthy of a shot send me a resume of all the programs you know and experience with your best samples and ill also consider them, if i was to open up and let ya'll know who im working with right now i'd make you trip, thats why i need the most experience possible, thanx for ya'll replys.

I see alot of ignorance in that post, why?

Phantom, What could you offer us that we can't already offer ourselves? As you can see some of us are running our own business, with fair success at that. Please stop trying to sound higher than everyone, because your not. If you want professional students who look good on paper but have virtually no experience, go to a college or media institute, get in contact with the teachers, and let them know you got a job proposition for their "top" students right when they are done with there touch the surface courses and week long in-class exams. Good luck, but I also don't recommend this forum for finding what you are looking for, or any forum for that matter, because even if you happen to find people who meet your standards, they probably will either not be interested, or will have there foot in the door with their own company.

The actual "skill" of it you learn alot faster with education, with teachers and deadlines, they push you, rather than relying on your own procrastination. I know this from experience, I learned just as much in a year long course on Information & Technology than I did in 6 years of "learning it on your own" although I did learn alot from both, if I was taking classes when I was 10 or 11 on this I would of been way better off today. However, teaching yourself does give you an edge and a better look on what's really out there, it probably also helps you understand it better, the process of things.

Anyways Phantom I do sincerely wish you good luck on your expansion.

hey Samos i feel u on alot of that shit, see i have been gettinf resumes from the Seattle & San Francisco Art Institutes as well as ITT, and what do we offer, a good paying job, exposeur on working on artwork attached to names oppossed to the no-name people alot of amatuers do work for (Samos whats the biggest name you worked with?), and am i higher than u, i wont say that, but we are established, incorporated, we have actual offices and so forth, Samos you have some game i give u that, but im just on here giving people with some education & talent an opputunity to share what they have, apperantly this isnt for u, we dont just do album covers and websites here, thats only about 50% of what we do.

to me graphics is all about creativity......someone who went to school for graphic design could know stuff that someone that taught themselves dosen't, and vice versa. school is all about what u put in and what u want to get out of it......if you look at all the top graphic designers, mostly all of them majored in Graphic Design, and not just because they wanted a diploma, that's what they wanted to do. everyone talks about there are too many "weak" rappers and they are hurting the game......same can be said for graphic designers, but in the end the good ones will rise, and the others will just stay the same !!!

Phantom knows what he is doing........it's not up to you to question what he wants for his company, cuz in the end he's gonna hire who he thinks fits his criteria.......it's a great chance for someone that WANTS to learn about this business from Phantom who KNOWS about the business !!!
