Update: 3:46 - Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with free agent OG Larry Allen (Cowboys), pending a physical. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Larry Allen is a great pickup for the niners

A really good 1 @ that, Allen is still a upper level starter in the NFL, it was foolish of Dallas to cut him

according to what sources? I'm sure as hell if the Raiders offered him a contract he'd much rather take it on a team that has a much better chance of winning

Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat is reporting the Niners are expressing interest in former pro-bowl Cowboys lineman Larry Allen.

Allen, 34, is free to sign with any team after the Cowboys cut him in a move that saves the club $3.5 million on the salary cap. The 49ers and Raiders, possibly along with Seattle and Detroit, are likely to pursue him.

Okay.... The Raiders never brought him in...... The writer brought up San Fran. & Oakland as possible choices since Allen reported he'd like to play closer to his home ( Bay Area )

they didnt do much, they signed 2 Patriot backup, injury prone DBs, Yea unfortunately Beasley didnt get along with RB coach Bishop Harris, I know we are all waiting for the day Barlow is cut, for those of you who arent fimiliar with LArry Allen read this:

A 12-year veteran, Allen is one of the best ever to play his position. Due to his age, he is not the player he once was, but he is still a quality NFL starter and in the top quarter of OG's in the league. He has excellent size, bulk and strength for the position, and he still shows the ability to get movement one-on-one in the run game. He also possesses very good initial quickness and takes excellent angles in run blocking. He is not as quick getting to the second level, and blockers can beat him to spots at times. When he gets his hands on you, though, it's over. He can take linebackers and drive them out of the hole. He still keeps excellent position in pass protection. He has lost some range, but he keeps excellent position and still shows a solid two-arm extension. He is close to the end, but he could catch on as a one-year guy for a team that needs an starting OG to make a Super Bowl run. His body may start to break down, and he is not as well conditioned as he was earlier in his career.

It seems to me as if the 49ers are getting better, while the Raiders get worse.
