LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Las Vegas police are promising some answers today about the killing of a handcuffed teenager shot by officers as he ran from an unmarked police vehicle over the weekend.

The teen's name's being withheld by the Clark County coroner's office, and the names of the officers are being withheld by the police department.

Police administrators have asked for public patience, while promising a complete investigation following the Saturday morning shooting at an apartment complex in the city's northeast.

Initial reports are that the teenager was arrested for questioning in the slaying of another person earlier in the week in the same general northeast Las Vegas area.

Police say the teen worked his handcuffed hands from the back to the front of his body, and ran from the detectives' vehicle before the officers shot him in the back.

THEY WAS SAYIN ON THE NEWS THAT THEY CAN SHOOT ANYBODY THAT IS A THREAT TO ANYBODY BUT THE THING IS HE WASNT A THREAT BECAUSE HE WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM THE COPS AND PLUS THE KID LIVES IN THOSE APARTMENTS WHERE ELSE WOULD HE GO I'VE BEEN TO THOSE APARTMENTS AND THE WALLS ARE PREETY TALL TO JUMP OVER WIT HANDCUFFS AND ANOTHER THING THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD SHOOT HIM IF HE IS A FELON BUT HES NOT A FELON HE WAS JUST A "SUSPECT" FOR A MURDER SO THERE IS NO REASON FOR KILLIN THAT 17YEAR OLD HOPE THE 2 JBOEGS GO TO PRISON FOR MURDER!!!!!!!!

it doesnt matter, nothing will happen...MAYBE they'll lose their jobs, but probably not..they wont serve any jail time...cops have the ability to get away with anything...nothing pisses off more in the world than this shit. thanks cops! i feel so much safer!

Teen murder suspect's grandmother: Why did they have to kill?


A local grandmother is lashing out against Metro Police for shooting and killing her 17 year old grandson. Swuave Lopez was shot and killed Saturday after being arrested on suspicion of murder. Detectives say he was handcuffed and running from officers when he was shot in the back.

The teen's grandmother has a lot of questions for police. She wants to know why those two detectives had to shoot her grandson, instead of just chasing him down. She says her grandson was murdered by police and someone needs to be held responsible.

"They killed him. They murdered my grandson for no reason. Why did they have to kill?"

Jacueline Scranton says her 17 year old grandson, Swuave Lopez, wasn't posing any threat when he ran away from police early Saturday morning. Investigators say Lopez was handcuffed when he was shot twice in the back by two Metro detectives.

The teenager died later at the hospital. Scranton says race definitely played a role in this shooting. Before the shooting, police had arrested Lopez on suspicion of murder. Investigators believe he was involved in the killing of Kyle Staheli whose body was found in the desert that same day.

Lopez's grandma says she doesn't think her son had anything to do with that murder -- but she really doesn't know for sure. "My heart tells me I don't think so. The kid that I knew, the Swuave that I knew... I would say no."

Police also arrested one of Lopez's friends for that same murder. Meantime, Metro detectives are investigating this deadly police shooting and they're really asking everyone out there to be patient and not rush to judgement. They say their officers did good police work.

So far this year there have been 12 officer-involved shootings in Metro's jurisdiction. Compare that to 11 for all of 2005.

damn a shot in the back? he was usin his legs, they couldnt aim there? and the person above is correct,they wont get ANY jail time. Just like that cop who shot that air force guy 3 times ON TAPE and was given administrative leave. basically a payed vacation.

kids last name was lopez,thats why they killed him...fuckin pussy ass pigs.scared of a 17 year old mexican kid,so they shoot to kill...kid was arrested for ''questioning'' regarding a murder,meaning they werent sure if he did it or not,so how they gonna say he was a threat to others?and by being handcuffed,we assume he was allready searched for weapons rite?...fuck cops.

also, has anyone heard of a guy getting shot at a party in reno? i think hes in the hospital, got shot thru the neck, and the bullet went thru a table or something and hit another girl...it was supposedly gang related..
