Since I've purchased my nikon I've been steadily shooting manually to learn about aperture, shutter speed, etc. But I always wondered, is it ever appropriate to use the auto or any other modes besides Manual?. Like shooting at a family bbq or any other function with people or even scenic shots.

Still a rookie for a while but forever taking photos. We made a quick stop at the wharf in Monterey and I was only able to snap a few. I wish I had a better lens. Backside of the wharf. Came out dry looking so I did some editing. Some boat.

Anyone shoot raw? I've been reading up on it and a few people swear by it. Is it worth the disk space on my card to shoot raw + jpeg? I know you have more control of the photo before it's finalized but just wanted to know if ya'll do it and why?
