Groves Douglin Groves vs. Douglin Denis Douglin george groves By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (20-2, 15 KOs), the mandatory challenger for WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell, will be defending his World Boxing Council Silver 168 pound title next month on Sky Box Office against little known American Denis Douglin (17-3, 10 KOs) in a 12 round bout on the undercard of the Nathan Cleverly vs. Tony Bellew 2 rematch on November 22nd at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK.

It’s unclear if an American fighter was selected in hopes of getting the U.S boxing fans more interested in watching the Groves-Douglin fight to build up interest for a Groves vs. Dirrell fight in 2015. If that’s the case, then I think Groves’ promoter Kalle Sauerland picked the wrong guy.

‘’I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring,’’ said Groves. ‘’This is a chance for me to impress on a big card. I plan to steal the show! It’s a calculated risk, lose this fight and I lose my shot at Dirrell. But I want to stay active, I want to box as regularly as possible and I’m confident I can get the job done.”

I doubt that any casual boxing fans in the U.S have ever heard of Douglin before. If they were going to pick an American fighter to draw interest in a Dirrell vs. Groves fight, they could have at least selected someone that is regularly shown on Television in the U.S like J’Leon Love.

Douglin, 26, is a southpaw like Anthony Dirrell, but that’s where the similarities begin and end. He doesn’t have Dirrell’s blazing hand speed, excellent boxing skills or his tremendous punching power. The only thing he has in common is he’s a southpaw and he lives in the United States. It would be interesting to know if Sauerland was under the impression that Douglin is a household name in the U.S when he chose to pick him for Groves.

Douglin was knocked out two years ago in the 5th round by the talented Jermell Charlo.

Last year, Douglin was beaten by a fighter named Jose Angel Rodriguez by a lopsided 8 round unanimous decision. Douglin also was stopped in the 3rd round in 2011 by journeyman Doel Carasquillo (14-17-1). He never avenged any of those losses. Since his defeat at the hands of Rodriguez, Douglin has won his last three fights against little known opposition in beating Julius Kennedy, Orlando Membreno and Charles Whittaker.

Also on the November 22nd Sky Box Office pay-per-view card are the following fights:

James DeGale v Marco Antonio Periban

Scott Quigg v Hidenori Otake

Jamie McDonnell v Walberto Ramos

Anthony Joshua v Michael Sprott

Callum Smith v Nikola Sjekloca

The DeGale-Periban and Smith-Sjekloca fights are decent ones, but I see the other fights as pure mismatches. I like the main event between Bellew and Cleverly, but the fight card is a mixed bag. It’s got three decent but hardly great fights, and four mismatches.

You can make a strong argument that the Bellew-Cleverly 2 fight card shouldn’t be pay-per-view. I mean, neither of these guys have world titles, and they likely never will capture a world title in the cruiserweight division. Groves is fighting a 2nd tier guy in Doublin in what appears to be a horrible mismatch. Callum Smith is fighting a guy that was recently beaten twice. McDonnell has a mismatch against Ramos, and Quigg is fighting a fighter who has never fought a 12 round bout and who has never fought outside of Japan.

Yeah, I heard that about Rigo too. From what I heard he didn't like something about the guaranteed fights/scheduling or something. But they offered him great money
Well he's signed to Caribe, who's only job in this world seems to be to fuck shit up. I don't know why he sticks with them, probably signed a 100 year contract after leaving Cuba lol. These Cubans all seem to get screwed by small time promoters/managers because they don't know any better.

Be honest. When you look at this picture it's obvious GGG drained the Mexican out of Rubio. Look at the painful expression on Rubio's face and notice the dark skin disappearing :

It's one of the most evil pictures I've ever seen in my life. You can literally see Golovkin suck his soul, identity, nationality and pride. Look at how hard GGG is gripping his hand. The sinister expression on his face as if he's saying "This is my Mexican now" and the pure terror of Rubio as he realizes exactly what's occurring. What a hopeless feeling that must have been for Rubio

james degale gennady golovkin By Scott Gilfoid: British super middleweight contender James DeGale (19-1, 13 KOs) believes WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) isn’t the fighter that many boxing fans and writers have built him up to be.

DeGale feels that Golovkin is a guy that has been beaten before in the past in the amateur ranks, and can be beaten again in the pros if he faces a slick boxer that can use his boxing skills to out-slick him. DeGale doesn’t say who that particular fighter is at 160, so it’s kind of one of those things where he’s talking but not backing it up with some facts.

“I’m not sure if he’s unstoppable and no one can beat him,” DeGale said to Sky Ringside. He is human. He did lose in the amateurs a couple of times. He’s human. I think a good slick fast fighter [would beat him]. I think he’d be in trouble,” DeGale said.

You have to wonder whether this is a case of jealously rearing it’s ugly head with DeGale in him taking a shot at Golovkin. After all, Golovkin is getting all kinds of love from boxing fans and the media right now, whereas DeGale is currently being ignored by the guy he wants to fight in IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

There isn’t any real slick fighters in the middleweight division at this time. The slick and talented fighters like the Dirrell brothers and Andre Ward fight in the super middleweight division. So, unless Golovkin moves up in weight to take them on, he’s really the ruler of the 160 pound division right now.

DeGale has a fight next month on November 22nd against Marco Antonio Periban (20-2-1, 13 KOs) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. DeGale will be risking his world title shot for the IBF 168 pound belt by taking the fight against Periban, but he feels confident enough in his skills to win this one. I’m not sure if DeGale is because Periban gave Sakio Bika all kinds of problems in their fight, and I rate Bika as a better fighter than DeGale. If Periban was able to go life and death with Bika, then he might be too much for DeGale to deal with.

Al Haymon can help him with his RN deal. Remember, Haymon is an advisor.
So is James Prince.

But why in the hell would Haymon work to get Ward a deal with Roc Nation? Haymon wants nothing to do with Roc Nation and him and Jay Z have beef. If Haymon "advised" Quillin to turn down & 1.9m and his belt against Korobov he sure as hell isn't going to try and get Ward a deal with Roc Nation.

It's up to Ward if he wants to sign with RN or not, if they are in fact interested (I don't see why they wouldn't be)

I didn't know he and Jay z had issues. Anyway, while I dont agree with the Quillin move, Haymon can still do a better job with Ward.
