Haymon getting this deal with NBC is fuckin genius if you ask me. All of his fighters can get national exposure to mainstream fans, which means more sponsorships and more money generated. Fights back in the day used to be on regular tv and not PPV, and fighters back then were more in the mainstream and their exposure created more money for them outside the ring.

I believe this is going to put him ahead of the game.

That would be true if this deal was on NBC. It's not. It's supposedly for NBC Sports (which is a cable channel many people don't have or even realize they have). This channel has only been around since 2012. Prior it was called Versus. So i don't know if I'd consider it mainstream (unless they really pump a lot of money into it).

I personally don't believe Al Haymon is putting $20m of his own money into anything, other people's money maybe but not his.

How is Duva being a hypocrite here? I think she did what she could but her stable was always very limited. Adamek, Kovalev, Curtis Stevens, Cunningham. Thats all she really had. I was shocked she got this deal when it made a couple years ago because she simply isn't big time with no big names. She's done good with Kovalev though.
Doesn't matter where the money came from for two reasons: He is the one the deal will be made with. Second, if investors are involved there has to be an exit strategy in place just in case the venture fails.

So like I said there is no way 20 mil is leaving his hands, to purchase time, unless he has something major up his sleeve.

Duva was/is a hypocrite. All that shit about Haymon she said, all the lies she said about Stevenson that were proven false when his camp released the emails, etc.

HYPOCRITE.

All the shit she said about Haymon is true. He has been violating the Ali Act for years but he's got away with it by calling himself a Personal Advisor, while acting as manager and collecting money from both sides. Just about any big fight we've wanted to see that didn't involved Al Haymon in one way or another. The only good fights of his seem to be fights that were ordered by sanctioning bodies (like Matthysse vs Garcia for example).

And if this deal is true, and he wants to cut out Showtime, why did he "advize" Stevenson to jump to Showtime and sign a deal with them? Not only did Haymon screw over Stevenson who's struggling to find any decent opponents now, he would have totally betrayed Showtime and Espinoza, feeding them these bad mismatch fights/cards, only to secretly make a deal with NBC Sports? Lol if true, Espinoza got played the fool (which has hurt us boxing fansnow the most because this has been a terrible year largely because of Al Haymon).

Everywhere this guy goes he destroys the relationship. When Greenberg was head of HBO, we got fed terrible mismatches, Andre Berto fighting bum on undercard for $1m, etc. Greenberg was getting so much heat he gets fired, Hershman comes in and puts an end to these bullshit fights and Al Haymon kills the relationship and only works with Showtime. Now he's screwed over Showtome and os going to NBC Sports? There is a pattern here and Thats why I'm extremely skeptical about this deal being a positive thing for boxing. He's never shown us he's about making good fights, he's shown us the opposite - he tries to maximize purses for low risk fights.

I know Jay Z doesn't like Al Haymon because supposedly Haymon ripped off Beyonce on one of her tours he promoted and she sued him.

But I don't really know how involved Jay Z is or will be. He hired legit boxing guys to run the boxing portion of Roc Nation, so for all we know Jay Z will not have any real involvement. We'll see.

I respect haymon and what he does. The guy is a business genius and I could never hate on a man making his money. However, as a boxing fan it is shitty, but haymon didn't make the game how it is, he just does what he can in the current situation of boxing. Can't blame one man for the current state of boxing.

Actually you can blame a whole lot of whats been occurring in boxing on Haymon. I don't understand why we should respect him because he's a good hustler that hurts the sport. He's like one of those big shot NFL agents that does everything he can to get the most money for his client even if it means holding out for a season, hurting the team and hurting the sport. I don't see fans of NFL agents out there so I don't see why there should be fans of a boxing manager, it's ridiculous. Al Haymon has constantly got in the way or flat out cock blocked good fights. Recently, having Peter Quillin drop his title and miss out on a $1.4m career high payday to fight his mandatory in Korobov? What is respectable about shit like that?

This deal isn't necessarily bad, I'm just saying it's not going to be a game changer and Showtime is not going to be cut out. I think he'll use this to build fighters and he's still gonna be working with Showtime for the bigger fights. If he has four regular, primetime NBC cards, those four dates might be big, but I doubt the NBC Sports cards will be anything more than showcase fights for up & comers like Errol Spence and the likes. Which is fine. More boxing on TV is good. But let's not kid ourselves and believe NBC Sports is going to pump a ton of money into this and all these advertising and endorsement deals are going to come rolling in.

NBC sports doesn't have to pump money into anything as they are being paid for the time. It would be on Haymon and co to pump money into it, find advertisetd, etc. Given his relationships in and outside of boxing that won't be an issue. The issue is will he be able to recoup the 20 mil and turn a profit in the time period of the fights.

It won't be an issue if it's what I suspect it will be - a place to build up and coming fighters (meaning small purses, showcase fights, etc). However if people think we're going to see quality match ups like Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, and the likes on NSP Sports then I don't think there is enough money just from advertising to pay $2m+ dollar cards. Can't see it, not realistic.

You look at it as a fan, and I agree with you. But at the end of the day, Al Haymon gets his fighters money, exposure, cherry picked fights a lot of the time. If I was a fighter, I'd prefer to be on Al Haymon's side. The guy has a lot of power and connections; he can do the sport of boxing a lot of good in terms of getting it exposure and making it more mainstream. This deal is going to prove that IMO.

Honestly, it's just going to be an outlet for showcase fights. Haymon set it up to milk Showtime's budget with the Floyd deal and now has an outlet to have showcase fights somewhere else. Kinda curious where Haymon goes from here, because I think he really tested the waters on the Maidana/Broner and Garcia/Matthysse thing with his dudes fighting each other and I'm not sure how he feels about the outcome. I get the feeling that he probably wanted Broner and Matthysse to win those fights, and they didn't, so it was a big step back for him. But that's the game and that's the business. I just get the feeling that it's going to make him skeptical to pair his fighters against each other in the future.

Coach E. No @Coach E. No I've been saying that for the longest but people were caught up on GBP putting up good cards in 2013 but all of their hype jobs lost except Floyd. But we will see someone like Thurman on NBC, not NBC sports. I think Haymon is also doing this to find his next PPV star. He has no choice but to pair his fighters up, but we will see A LOT of scoring cards that will favor his favorite fighters.

Who said anything about money just from advertising? On the previous page I said co branding, tie ins, merch and advertising. All ancillary goods = more awareness and greater chance to recoup. And then you have to figure in licensing to other markets outside of the country because there is no way he will "pay to play" but allow the network exclusive rights to a foreign market. What he is doing is simple actually. He develops a show, he owns the show, he pays for the spot, he gets the show to pop, the ratings increase, the channel has two options: reduce the fee or become a partner and co-develop.

Again, I don't see where this money is going to come from to pay for big cards. If we're talking about showcase fights with up and comers, sure he'll get the money. "Stacked" cards on NBC Sports though? That's where I'm skeptical. For That the purses alone would be multi millions of dollars and that's very difficult to fund without a network paying for it, especially if*we're talking about a dozen or more cards.

We'll see how it goes. The ratings will depend on the names fighting so Hopefully he realizes he's going to need to put on entertaining, competitive fights.

I can't even remember if I get that channel. I didn't really think about it, but they do advertise on that channel a lot more than they do on Showtime obviously because they do not have commercials. I don't know the logistics of it all. Obviously the dude has a plan and knows a lot more of the particulars than any of us or he wouldn't be considering it. But more than anything, I have VERY low hopes for it. I can't think of any promoter that has signed that type of deal and it ended up being all that great, on any channel.

This is where tie-ins and co-branding come in. Let's say Floyd is moving a shit ton of merchandise on his TMT or Floyd.com or whatever he has. He does a tie-in or co-brand with Haymon (they're two different things) to generate a buzz and revenue. You take that money, whatever it is, and reinvest it back into paying for the card.

If we're talking about showcase fights with up and comers, sure he'll get the money. "Stacked" cards on NBC Sports though? That's where I'm skeptical.
Read one of the links I gave you earlier. The channel is a niche site and boxing has done well on the channel before. Everyone should be skeptical but the man gave up 20 million and, so far, he has shown that he can generate money in boxing. Why do you think all the people want to sign with Haymon?

For That the purses alone would be multi millions of dollars and that's very difficult to fund without a network paying for it, especially if*we're talking about a dozen or more cards.
He's already paying for it. Again, he is "paying to play" this isn't about the network because the only thing he is getting from the network is a time slot. He shot them 20 mil, he didn't say I have 20 mil I want you to match it. The network has no incentive to help pay for it. The only thing they are obligated to do is provide the slot in the specified markets at the specified time.

We'll see how it goes. The ratings will depend on the names fighting so Hopefully he realizes he's going to need to put on entertaining, competitive fights.
That's a given. Shit fighters? 20 mil down the toilet. Ok fighters with a lot of hype? Maybe he'll recoup. HBO/SHO and PPV type of matches and fighters? Win for everyone. All Haymon has to do is show that the numbers are there and can be there on a regular basis. And another thing, he's gonna also have to offer more than boxing when the show is on. He's providing content, it's entertainment, so it's gonna have to catch the eye and have people tuning in every week or however they have it scheduled.

Have faith, nigga.
