Tim Bradley Says He Feels Is The #2 Welterweight In The World……Behind Floyd Mayweather Junior
Published August 20, 2012 | By eastside | 17 Comments

By James Slater: Unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight king Tim Bradley, still waiting on signing for a follow up fight to his life changing, controversial win over superstar Manny Pacquiao, might now be more interested in taking a bout with Floyd Mayweather Junior compared to a return with Pac-Man.

Promoter Bob Arum is very cool on the idea of a return of the June 9th shocker, and though Bradley is the champion he is currently waiting on Pacquiao to make up his mind on who he will fight on November 10th in Las Vegas. Recently, Bradley expressed the opinion that Pac-Man might be “scared” of him and that he would do far better in a rematch compared to in the first fight, when he boxed with two injured ankles for a good portion of the 12-rounder.

But in an interview on HattonBoxing.com, Bradley sounded as though he is now more interested in facing “Money.” Bradley is realistic enough to admit that he is the second best welterweight in the world, after number-one Mayweather. Bradley is also convinced Mayweather would deal with Pacquiao easily should the two fight.

“I feel as if I’m the number two fighter at 147-pounds, and that’s behind Floyd Mayweather Junior,” Bradley said. “Once Floyd flattens Manny Pacquiao, which is going to happen if they ever fight, then me and Floyd can get it on.”

Mayweather has yet to make any official announcement on what his future ring plans are, yet the 43-0 master is sure to box again at least a few more times before walking away. There is talk of a Mayweather-Cotto rematch happening, and of a Mayweather-Pacquiao clash going down next April (but don’t hold your breath) but who knows, maybe Mayweather will look Bradley’s way instead. A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would still do great business, and fans of both fighters will make a case for their guy winning.

Bradley, however, sounds as though he has lost a lot of respect for Pacquiao, and maybe this has influenced his prediction that says Floyd “flattens” Manny. But who would win if Bradley and Mayweather did get it on? I for one am intrigued by this fight, maybe Mayweather is too?

But time is ticking on for Bradley, a fighter who has been somewhat quiet since his career-biggest win. If he doesn’t get the November rematch with Pacquiao, could it be that “Desert Storm” sits out the remainder of 2012?

TMT Approached Miguel Cotto, He Declined Their Offer
Published August 20, 2012 | By eastside | 7 Comments

By Vitali Shaposhnikov: TMT Promotions have gained a ton of respect due to their aggressive marketing and signing of great new as well as seasoned talent. 50 Cent along with Floyd Mayweather Jr. are making a statement in the sport of boxing, and are now a direct competition to the bog boy in the promotional game, such as Golden Boy Promotions and top Rank.

TMT was able to sign such names as Andre Dirrell, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Andre Berto, Billy Dib, Celestino Caballero, and Zab Judah. I am sure that by now, their roster has expanded significantly, and will keep growing as time goes by.

One fighter declined an offer to be a part of the TMT team, deciding to stay a free agent in hopes of making his own decisions and more money by choosing his own career shaping moves. That fighter who declined an offer from TMT happens to be none other than Miguel Cotto.

“Unfortunately for Jackson and Mayweather, Cotto decided to stay as a free agent, a position he feels will benefit him more as he approaches the tail end of a superb career in the professional ranks,” read an article on TheBoxingObserver.

I think that most fighters that have tasted both being a free agent and a puppet of a promotional company will choose to make their own moves. Of course money does the talking, but for boxing superstars like Cotto, a great paycheck will always be a part of any fight related equation.

I was not surprised that Cotto declined, but at the same time curios whether other bigger names might follow suit. It is great got TMT that they jumped on this opportunity, and are vigorously trying to add some blockbuster names to their stable. Maybe, just maybe, TMT will turn out to be the next big thing is boxing promotions, and will lead to a fight that we are all tired of waiting for.

Schaefer: Kirkland under a valid contract with Golden Boy Promotions
August 20th, 2012

By Dan Ambrose: Junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KO’s) is reportedly suing his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions in order to try and get out of his contract with them. Apparently, Kirkland isn’t happy with the situation and wants to go in another direction with someone else.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV “The only thing I can say is that James Kirkland is under a valid contract with Golden Boyu, and we’ll have to protect out interests…We’ll have to see what it is and potentially file a counter suit against whoever is behind it.”

Kirkland also wants to leave his long time trainer Ann Wolfe for some reason. She’s done a great job with Kirkland, and he’s unbeatable when working with her. His one loss on his resume came when Wolfe wasn’t training him when he was stopped in the 1st round by Nobuhiro Ishida last year in April.

At 28, Kirkland should be hitting his best years in the pro game. He’s coming off of a shoulder injury that required surgery after his 10th round disqualification win over Carlos Molina last March. Kirkland looked slow and over-muscled in that fight compared to his much better performance in stopping Alfredo Angulo by a 6th round TKO last November.

now I'm khans number one fan? you're on a roll today, making shit up left and right. I've never really cared for khan one way or another, just another fighter ill watch on tv. has a shit chin, I've said that since before he got ko'd by prescott.

ah yes, the ko over ud arguement. very smart. I guess cuz hagler ud duran while hearns kod duran meant hearns was better that hagler. solid logic u got there.
If you would learn how to comprehend what you read you wouldn't look and sounds so dumb. The difference between Broner and The Ghost that Broner KO's lesser fights while the Ghost wins by boring UD. Now do you understand what I’m talking about?? Why do you always bring up legends vs. legends to make your dumb ass double standard points? Neither Broner nor the Ghost has fought an elite fighter. Like really what in the hell does Hagler UD'ing Duran have to do with The Ghost always winning by boring UD against lesser fighter???

Bradley doesn't sound like a guy that believes he lost that fight....

Lol at "Floyd flattens Manny", Bradley knows that Manny is overrated that's why he said that! He took Manny's best punch and beat him. Watching the fight, he didn't even back down or retreat, that's probably what helped him win the fight besides slipping and countering. Bradley is going to beat him again if they fight. Hopefully Bradley doesn't get robbed this time around since a majority of the fans felt Manny was robbed the first time.

bradley "ill have to watch the tapes" didn't sound like a guy who thought he won the fight either. of course he talks a big game now, he'd be foolish not to as he's in a great position to rematch pac or have another big fight.

anyways, every fighter in the world that gets a bad decision says they won. u don't hear bam bam rios, tavoris cloud etc etc etc say they felt they lost.

JESSIE VARGAS: "MY EYES ARE ON HOLDING A TITLE BELT SOON"
By Scott Smith | August 21, 2012

"I want to to fight a world championship fight hopefully after this fight. But first is Martinez. We are 100% focused on this fight...my eyes are on holding a title belt soon...In my radar is anyone with a belt in my division...Prediction, I'm coming in stronger than ever," stated undefeated welterweight contender Jessie Vargas, who talked about his upcoming September 13 return to the ring, his future plans, and much more. Check it out!

SS: With Aaron Martinez next for September, what do you expect from him in terms of style?

JV: I expect him to come to fight. He is a good aggressive boxer, so I expect a fight.

SS: The victory over a very experienced Forbes was an impressive performance, brilliant tactical performance, with great use of the jab. Were you hoping to take a step up in opponent to elevate you to world title level or happy to face whatever Top Rank presented?

JV: It was a good performance; I outclassed a top boxer and that's only having 1 week and a half to prepare for Forbes. My original opponent (Alfonso Gomez), he had pulled out last minute. My whole camp was for Gomez. When Forbes came in, we changed up our tactic a little bit being that he was a completely different style.

SS: This is your first fight with Top Rank Promotions. What are your short term goals with them? Get this fight out of the way and go for a title belt or get a few more fights first?

JV: I will fight anyone They put in front of me, but I want to to fight a world championship fight hopefully after this fight. But first is Martinez. We are 100% focused on this fight.

SS: With Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley signed with Top Rank, has there been any mention from Bob Arum about the possibility of facing those guys?

JV: Bob Arum did mention something about them. I hope to fight with them very soon.

SS: Out of the two, obviously Pacquiao would be the better payday, but sylistically, what would be the more suited fight for yourself?

JV: I adapt very well in the ring to any style. It doesn't matter, but my eyes are on holding a title belt soon.

SS: Your victory over Josesito Lopez looks even more impressive after what he done to Ortiz and now facing Canelo. Up to now, is it safe to say that he has been your toughest fight? what did you learn coming away from that fight?

JV: I wouldn't say that was my toughest fight. My toughest was a 8-round fight that I should have won easy, but didn't prepare well for. It was a big learning experience. The Josesito fight was an exciting fight which I boxed very well. I will say that fight was fun for myself and entertaining for the fans. Josesito has always been a tough fighter. I wasn't surprised with the results of the Ortiz fight. I learned how to fight the whole ten rounds (laughing). It was my first 10-round fight to go to distance.

SS: Working with Roger Mayweather is an opportunity most fighters would love to do. What is so good about Roger's style? Above all else, what are the key things that Roger has taught you?

JV: Roger is a great trainer. I train with Robert Alcazar now. I have been training with him for 1 year now and I'm very comfortable with him.

SS: With the emergence of TMT Promotions, any regrets from yourself? And how successful do you expect TMT to be?

JV: No regrets. I expect them to be succesful. Floyd Mayweather and 50 cent are two very smart individuals that know a lot about the business.

SS: Much has been made of Floyd Mayweather's role in the promotional company. You have had the privilege to work and learn from the best in the game. What was the best advice Floyd has given to you?

JV: Best advice is to be very smart in the ring, smarter than your opponent, and also to be the best fighter, you have to have a good offense, but even a better defense.

SS: With the exception of maybe Pacquiao and Bradley, who is on your radar in the near future?

JV: In my radar is anyone with a belt in my division.

SS: As a young Mexican fighter, who inspired you growing up getting into boxing?

JV: I started boxing because I wanted to be like my idol Julio Cesar Chavez. I fell in love with the sport and when I was a young kid, I said I wanted to be like Chavez and that I was going to be champion of the world.

SS: What length camp are you having for this fight, and how are preparations going?

JV: 8 weeks of hard work. Preparation is coming along great. I can't wait for fight time.

SS: Do you have a prediction for the fight?

JV: Prediction, I'm coming in stronger than ever.

SS: To finish off, do you have a message for your fans?

JV: Thank you for following and I hope you enjoy the fight. I always come to give a great fight.

ANDRE DIRRELL: "I'M LOOKING TO MAKE A BIG STATEMENT ON MY RETURN"
By Christian Hesse | August 21, 2012

"It wasn't the standard contract at all. Floyd Mayweather looked out for my best interests. Floyd and 50 did, so you know, I just had to work out few other kinks. My lawyer had that tied away and he had no problem with that at all. It was a solid, quick deal pretty much. I have a four year, one year option, you know, so that's the contract...Like I said, I'm looking to make a big statement on my return and once I get that ball rolling, it's not gonna slow down at all, so my name's gonna stay in the loop this time until I retire; no doubt about it," stated top super middleweight Andre "The Matrix" Dirrell, who talked about his new contract with TMT Promotions, his potential return to the ring on November 17th, and much more. Check it out!

CH: Thanks a lot for taking the time to speak with us. Congratulations on your new promotional contract. Was that process a complex one or pretty straightforward? Are you able to disclose the length of the contract?

AD: Thanks a lot; appreciate it. It was pretty much a promoter respect, fighter type deal. There were a few kinks that we had to work out. The contract came pretty good. It wasn't the standard contract at all. Floyd Mayweather looked out for my best interests. Floyd and 50 did, so you know, I just had to work out few other kinks. My lawyer had that tied away and he had no problem with that at all. It was a solid, quick deal pretty much. I have a four year, one year option, you know, so that's the contract. I'm totally fine with that. I know that this guy is going to boost my career; get it going fast. Like I said, he's doing a great job with it. If I worked out the rest of my career with them, that would be a great thing.

CH: You recently said that you expect to return to the ring on the 17th of November. Carl Froch is supposed to announce his next bout on Monday, and then he's got that rematch with Lucian Bute. You had hoped to face Froch sooner rather than later. It's highly unlikely that he's going to mention you, but is there any chance that his announcement will be that he's facing you next?

AD: I highly doubt that. I've been out for...on November, that'll be 11 months. That's another year, so that's almost three years in total. I'm really ready to get back in there. I'm expecting a warm-up fight first. I'm expecting pretty tough opposition because I'm ready for it, you know, but as far as me and Froch go, I'd love that to build up again and me and him get that shot again. So after he fights Bute and after my next fight, then I'll definitely be ready for a fight with Carl Froch again; no question.

CH: So the November 17th bill, the first thing that sprang to mind when I saw that you signed with TMT was that we might have Dirrell on a Mayweather card. It's probably unlikely that Mayweather's fighting in November. Do you have any idea who else might be on that card or are you headlining that card?

AD: I'm not too certain. It could be Gamboa as well, you know. I don't know. We're just really working on getting me back in that ring, getting me going, but I'm ready for 'em. So if I'm going to headline, then you'd better believe that it's going to be a pretty good opponent in front of me.

CH: Kelly Pavlik is back on the scene and is still pretty good. In terms of a tune-up, maybe someone else before Pavlik?

AD: Who has Pavlik fought? When was the last time that he fought? I know that he's pretty on and off too. I'm not too concerned with him like I thought I was. I would love a fight with him somewhere down the line. If it's Pavlik, whether it's a tune-up, whether...I'm just ready for it. Pavlik's a great fighter, but he's been out of the ring just as long as me pretty much.

CH: In terms of fighters, I always felt that you had a bit more to offer than Pavlik did, but he's still kind of a name, so if you came back and you beat him, that would probably help reintroduce you to the public.

AD: Definitely, definitely. Like I said, I'm looking to make a big statement on my return and once I get that ball rolling, it's not gonna slow down at all, so my name's gonna stay in the loop this time until I retire; no doubt about it.

CH: So in terms of your next opponent, you're still discussing that with your team, but it sounds like a tune-up might make the most sense at this point.

AD: Yeah.

CH: How many times a year would you like to fight, or is that left to your management/promoters?

AD: That's one of the things that I discussed with Floyd heavily when we were talking about the contract. I would like at least three fights a year starting off. That's pretty much a guarantee. I wanna fight three times for the next two years, that's a fact. For the next six fights, no question about it, three times a year. Delete 2012, get a fight this year, then 2013 to 2014, you know it'll be out of this world. We'll be ringing bells, man, constant.

Lara by KO!

Schaefer: Lara Signs To Face Vanes on November 10th

By Rick Reeno

Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, has advised BoxingScene.com that junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11KOs) has signed his contract to fight unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20KOs) in a WBC final eliminator on November 10th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - as part of the Manny Pacquiao HBO pay-per-view undercard.

In an earlier article on BoxingScene , Vanes' manager and uncle, Serge Martirosyan, stated how his nephew signed the contract three weeks ago and they were simply waiting on Lara to sign his version.

"I talked to Lara's adviser, Al Haymon, today - and they confirmed that Lara signed the contract and is ready to go. The reason he didn't sign it before is because he actually got it late. He just had to review it, but it's all done. I understand that in the contract it stipulates that the fight will happen on November the 10th, at the MGM Grand as part of the Pacquiao card. We are ready to go and now let's see if Martirosyan is actually going to get into the ring. I have my doubts but based on the way they are talking I guess he will - which is great," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

On July 20th, the World Boxing Council held a mandatory purse bid for Vanes-Lara. Top Rank, who promote Vanes, placed a winning bid of $405,000 to secure the rights. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to the upcoming fight between champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and challenger Josesito Lopez, which takes place on September 15th at the MGM Grand.
