it was some chick.. a dumbass one at that lol.. i did some research this shit will affect my credit score by 20%... nigga fuck! there goes my good credit
what research have you done? not all medical facilities report to the credit bureau's........you can owe 12 million dollars, but if that specific medical facility doesnt report to the credit bureu's then your credit it safe, but they can still sue you.......

mine shows "settled" or "closed"

would it matter if it said less than amount owed? that collection agency bought the debt they made the choice to get what they could

debt is settled regardless what they try and help you with
"settled in full" and "paid in full" are two different stories, they both will affect your credit score differently........the "debt" is settled, but your credit report is what you should be worrying about.........

in order to go around that, send/fax a letter saying you will settle in full but you want it erased from your credit report after you pay.......collection agencies play hard ball, but you also have that oppertunity.........it'll probably work better towards the end of the month when the collectors need to reach their budget.......alot of times they will be more leniant in order to get their bonus check...........

and yes, collection laws vary from state to state significantly depending on where your from..............

I currently do collections for one of the major banks and used to work for a third party collection agency for a couple years, best bet is work on your negotiations skills and try to settle it out with them. Medical debt is notoriously hard to collect on so you might be surprised on what kind of deal you can get if you can throw some cash in their face.

BTW do not get a lawyer unless your gonna cash in your chips and file BK they aren't gonna do shit for you that you can't do by yourself. Same deal with those bullshit 800 numbers and settlement houses, its all bullshit.

From what I understand........as long as you pay even $1.00 to a hospital bill and they process that payment, then they can't fuck with you and send you to collections. It is on record that you sent in a payment and they processed that payment. So, I also say pay the hospital the bare fucking minimum, fuck those crooks.

Get a reg credit card. You are going to have extremely high interest rate to begin but you have to start somewhere. Buy shit you know you can pay off with the monthly payment......(Gas, Groceries, hair cut, etc).

Every month pay that shit off.

I promise you that after 1 year of doing that you credit card companies will start giving you credit.

i am currently building my credit. used to pay cash for all my daily expenses. just get a credit card, and charge those expenses, and make sure you pay off the bill in full that same month (to avoid interest charges, since starter credit cards for folks like us charge HELLA interest on any balance that remains). slowly but surely your credit will rise.

maybe get a gas card, charge your monthly fuel shit to the card and pay the card off completely each month. same money you'd be spending anyways, but at least you'll be building a positive credit history.

something else i heard, which i do not know is true, is to find someone with good credit. like, excellent credit. have that person sign you on to one of their credit cards as an authorized signer. don't even have to have a card issued to you so you won't fuck up anyone's credit. after i think six months, your credit history is boosted. i'm not sure how this works exactly, but i heard the shit from different sources (suze orman, family, etc). i might do that with my girl, since her credit is off the chain.
