Cintron Fires Back: Hey Vanes, You're The Real Bitch!

By Rick Reeno

The war of words continue to fire off between unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan and former champion Kermit Cintron. Both Vanes and Cintron are in the running to fight WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on December 4. The words began to fly after Cintron informed BoxingScene.com that Cotto's trainer, Emanuel Steward, had turned him down as a possible opponent. Cintron told BoxingScene that Vanes was undeserving of a showcase opportunity against Cotto.

Vanes was very quick to respond, as he reached out to BoxingScene to counter Cintron's criticisms.

"I just read the comments by 'Kermit the Frog' saying I don't deserve a fight with Cotto. Who is he to say that? I promise everyone if I fight Cotto I won't jump out of the ring or if Cotto hits me with a right hand I won't claim it's a headbutt," Vanes told BoxingScene.com.

"Has there ever been a time where he hasn't bitched? Every fight he bitches at everything and every time he steps up, he starts to have a period. What has he done to deserve a fight with Cotto? At least I won my fight on HBO. He's coming off an embarrassing fight on HBO. Don't get me wrong, he might be a good guy at the Olympic swimming trials. He should stick to what he's good at."

Cintron read the comments and was very motivated to fire back in kind.

"Tell Vanes to go suck a big d*ck. He runs his mouth like I said earlier but doesn’t accept any of the names he has been calling out. [Erislandy] Lara wants to fight him so bad. I don’t see him accepting the challenge from Lara. I wont call him out because he wont accept my challenge. As for calling me names, like “Kermit The Frog”. That’s really old. I’ve heard that a billion times," Cintron told BoxingScene.com.

"As for the fight with [Sergio] Martinez. In the moment of exchanging punches in the fight, yeah I thought it was a headbutt. After reviewing the tape, yeah it was clearly a punch. I had admitted that in a few interviews, you idiot."

"As for the diving out the ring against Paul Williams - Why would I dive out the ring? One, I was clearly winning the fight. Two, I was about to knock him out. And three, there was millions [of dollars] for me to make in the rematch. What sense does that make? Why would I do that to my family? It's funny how people keep saying that I have no heart, this and that, but I continue to accept every fight that has been offered to me."

"Vanes, why don’t you fight a live body that will test your heart and will, then you can open your big mouth and say what you want. Lara is willing to fight you. You keep saying you will fight anybody. What about Lara? He keeps mentioning your name. You calling me a bitch but I fight whoever. I fought [Alfredo] Angulo and he only had 15 fights when I fought him. You keep using the excuse that Lara only has 13 fights and that it wouldn’t do anything for your career. I had more to lose than you fighting Lara."

"Stop being a bitch and fight him [Lara]. I take any fight that is offered to me. You call me a bitch but really, I have to say that you're the bitch. As for who knows me, I’m not the one who needs to go online and talk sh*t but I wanted to say this and will leave it at that. Vanes can continue talking. I accept your challenge if you are willing to accept to fight. In the mean time, do yourself a favor and go suck a big d*ck."

Cintron: Emanuel Steward Trying To Sabotage Cotto Fight

By Rick Reeno

Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron reached out to BoxingScene.com, furious at the latest developments in his negotiations to face WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on December 4. According to Cintron, he was informed that Cotto's trainer, Emanuel Steward, is discouraging Cotto from accepting the fight, and advising the Puerto Rican star to face the secondary option, unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan. Steward had at one time trained Cintron. The two parted ways on good terms.

Top Rank, who promotes Cotto, are looking to stage a doubleheader on December 4 with Cotto in the main event and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the co-feature.

"You have two great fighters who are willing to fight each other, and then you have a trainer, Emanuel Steward, who used to train me and is training Cotto right now. Emanuel Steward, I'm really surprised by the way that he's handling this by not accepting me as an opponent. He trained both of us, so he knows better than not taking the fight because he knows that I'm going to knock Cotto out. At the same time, it's bullsh*t that he's doing this," Cintron told BoxingScene.com.

"Emanuel Steward, he's taking food from my kids by doing that. I'm just hoping that he grows some balls. He says that he's a good friend of mine. He should grow some balls and let the fight happen. I think he's being a piece of sh*t right there. He's stealing from me, and that's how I feel. Just let the fight happen and accept the fact that Cotto will get knocked out if the fight happens."

Cintron has nothing personal against Vanes, but he doesn't believe the unbeaten contender has done enough to deserve a big opportunity like Cotto. Vanes, like Cotto, is promoted by Top Rank.

"He has a big mouth. He's been on BoxingScene calling out all of the 154-pounders but hasn't really done too much to deserve the fight. I have nothing against him. No disrespect to him, but he doesn't deserve the fight. He's a lot safer than Emanuel Steward taking the fight with me. To take this opportunity from me, that's just bullsh*t. That's why a lot of people talk about boxing and say boxing is going downhill. Why not let the best fighters fight each other? F*ck that fighting safe sh*t. All of my career I've been fighting tough guys. I've won and I've lost," Cintron said.

"It's a way bigger fight with two Puerto Rican fighters, who are both from Puetro Rico. For Emanuel to take the fight away, that's just being a piece of sh*t. And if that's the case, then I have no respect for Emanuel Steward anymore."

Cintron has been wanting to fight Cotto since the two of them were reigning champions in the welterweight division. While he admits to being a big fan of Cotto, he is hungry to make the all-Puerto Rican clash happen in December.

"This fight should have happened when all of us were world champions [at welterweight]. When he was a world champion. When I was a world champion and when [Carlos] Quintana was a world champion. At that time, it was a beautiful thing because we had three great fighters from Puerto Rico, champions at the same time in the same weight class. The fight should have happened at that time," Cintron said.

"I want to fight him. I have nothing against Cotto. I've been a big fan of his since when he first started his career. When he fought in Atlantic City, I went to watch him. I have nothing against him, it's just the business aspect of it. The fight needs to happen. A lot of people have been waiting for it to happen and it's time."

Cintron and Vanes going back and forth that's funny.

I have a perfect solution:

Dec 4th, HBO PPV
Miguel Cotto vs Andre Berto
Vanes vs kermit Cintron
Lara vs _____

Winners of the top two fights can fight at a later date, Lara gets the winner of that.

so I guess it's official Chavez jr. will not be fighting Cotto. I knew that was too good to be true, Chavez people must have realized cotto would destroy him.

Emanuel Steward Responds To Cintron's Cotto Claims

By Michael Marley

Kermit Cintron's verbal spew, reported by Rick Reeno on BoxingScene.com , greatly irritated Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward.

I caught up with the Kronk Gym ring genius Saturday night just before he and his old friend, Houston trainer Kenny Weldon, put on a clinic for young boxers in that city.

Cintron alleges that, when it comes to him fighting fellow Puerto Rican Miguel Angel Cotto for the WBA 154-pound title on December 4, Steward is blocking like the New Orleans Saints offensive line.

Poppycock and hogwash, according to Steward.

Steward told me, that Cintron is barking up the wrong tree as to his claims that the veteran trainer advised Cotto to perhaps fight Vanes Martirosyan rather than Cintron.

Meanwhile, Cintron and Martirosyan are engaged in an X-rated back and forth duly chronicled by journalist Reeno. Both of them are talking rougher than Rick Ross and 50 Cent during a back alley crap game.

Steward says Cintron doesn't understand the Team Cotto chain of command and reiterated that he's not the baller and shotcaller.

"There's a whole lot of people who help Miguel Cotto make these decisions," the obviously ruffled Steward said.

"And I'm at the bottom of that list. I am not Miguel's manager. I am his trainer and that is it. He's got the lawyer, Gaby (Penagaricano). He's got input, of course, from promoter Bob Arum and their matchmaker, Bruce (Trampler).

"My objective is to get the best matchup we can for Miguel. I'm not someone telling Cotto who he is going to fight. I am not in that position. If it's Vanes, that's fine. If it's someone else, that's fine. All I'm going to do is do my job as the trainer and get Miguel ready for whoever the opponent is."

Cintron, who described he and Steward as being "friends," was formerly managed and trained by him.

In his hot, molten lava spiel to Reeno, Cintron said:

While Arum may not like deferring the matter, a match between Cotto and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., once penciled in for Dec. 4, has been pushed on to the 2011 fight calendar.

Arum has said it was a corporate decision at Top Rank that Chavez-Cotto going on Dec. 4 would be bumping heads with the Nov. 13 Antonio Margarito-Manny Pacquiao fight in terms of the pay-per-view TV dollars.

But skeptics think Chavez is not that keen on fighting the Boricua Bomber.

Some of those cynics also think young Chavez has no intention of reporting to trainer Freddie Roach and sparring with Manny Pacquiao in faraway Baguio. Nothing against strawberries, of course, but it's a long trip from Culiacan, Sinaloa

Alvarez Knocks Carlos Baldomir Out in Six Rounds

By Mark Vester

At Staples Center in Los Angeles, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (34-0-1, 26KOs) picked up the most impressive win of his career with a sixth round knockout of former welterweight champion Carlos "Tata" Baldomir (45-13-6, 14KOs). Alvarez retains the WBC Silver junior middleweight title.

They both came out at a measured pace. Both had their moments with decent shots landing. Alvarez doing the better work off the jab. In the second, Alvarez continued to land the better variety of punches. Alvarez landed a big right hand when Baldomir was against the ropes. Baldomir started using his jab more often in the third round. Alvarez was firing back with quick counters. Baldomir started breathing heavy by the end of the third.

Baldomir was getting hit as he came inside of Alvarez's range. Alvarez was landing good punches to Baldomir's body. Baldomir picked up the pressure and pressed forward. They traded punches at the end of the fourth. Alvarez picking his shots in the fifth and grabbed Baldomir every single time he tried to charge inside. In the sixth, they started by trading hard punches. In the final minute, Alvarez began landing some very hard shots on the chin of Baldomir and finished off his rally by blasting out an inside counter shot that sent Baldomir down face first for the count

Mosley-Mora ends in 12 round draw, Shane fails to prove he deserves a fight with Pacq

By Jason Kim: Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora fought to a 12 round draw on Saturday night at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, CA. Mosley, 39, threw more punches in the fight, but missed an awful lot of them and looked sloppy and tired in the 2nd half of the fight. At the same time, Mora landed the cleaner shots in the last half of the fight. The judges scored it 116-112 for Mosley, 115-113 for Mora and 114-114 even. I personally thought Mora had done enough to win the fight by at least four rounds, as Mosley just didn’t look at all good. You can explain away some of the reasons why Mosley looked so bad because he was fighting out of his weight class at junior middleweight.

Mora did a lot of moving and punching in the first six rounds of the fight. I thought he won at least three of those rounds with his effective punches and excellent defense. But it was in the second half of the fight where Mora seemed to really take control over the fight, because he was able to pound Mosley in close and rough him up with elbows, forearms and a lot of good wrestling.

Mosley was too small for the weight class six years ago when he was twice beaten by Winky Wright, which is why it seems all the more strange that Mosley, at the ripe old age of 39, would want to move back up to that class after all these years. In hindsight, it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t the smartest thing for Mosley to do, because he really struggled tonight against Mora. The thing of it is Mora isn’t even what I would consider a top 10 fighter at junior middleweight, and yet Mosley went life and death with him and barely scraped out a draw. I’d hate to see what would happen to Mosley if were to fight better junior middleweights like James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo, Sergeii Dzinziruk or Paul Williams. I see those as all defeats for Mosley. Hopefully, Mosley takes this fight as a big hint that he needs to either move back down to the welterweight division or consider retirement.

The most critical aspect of tonight’s draw for Mosley is that it’s his second consecutive less than impressive performance. While it’s great that he was able to avoid getting beaten, it still doesn’t get away from the fact that he’s looked poor and didn’t win either of the fights. Since Mosley was trying to prove that he deserves a big money fight against Manny Pacquiao tonight, I think he failed in accomplishing that. If Pacquiao wants to fight him now, he and his promoter Bob Arum are going to have to try and ignore how badly Mosley has looked lately. I don’t know that they will. I think Pacquiao and Arum will stick to fighting the hot fighters and look for the best possible match-up after Pacquiao dispatches with Antonio Margarito in November

Sauerland: Frenkel Has The Best One Punch KO at Cruiser

Alexander Frenkel (23-0, 18 KOs) is the new European Cruiserweight Champion after a spectacular KO victory over Enzo Maccarinelli (32-5, 25 KOs). The unbeaten 25-year-old floored the former world champion with a vicious left hook in the seventh round of their clash at the LG Arena in Birmingham. Maccarinelli beat the count but found himself on the floor again when Frenkel followed it up with another heavy series of punches. “I am very happy,” Frenkel said. “It was a tough fight against a very dangerous opponent. Maccarinelli was very strong but in the seventh round I hit him.”

After winning the opening round, Frenkel was trailing on all scorecards by the time he connected. “I wanted him to throw the left hook,” coach Ulli Wegner said. “We knew that Maccarinelli was a tough opponent but we also knew that Alexander has incredible punching power. That he showed once again tonight. However, he should have been more active in the opening rounds.”

Manager Wilfried Sauerland, who had predicted a stoppage in the seventh or eighth round, was pleased with Frenkel´s performance. “Just like Arthur Abraham at Super-Middleweight, Frenkel has the most powerful single KO punch in his division. He can end any fight with just one shot. He put on a strong performance and we are very happy to have added another champion to our team.”

On the undercard, Karo Murat (22-1, 13 KOs) suffered the first loss of his career as he was outboxed by Nathan Cleverly in a WBO Light Heavyweight Title Eliminator. The referee stopped the fight after nine one-sided rounds. “I am very disappointed,” Murat said. “I will analyse my mistakes and bounce back.” Cleverly was in full control throughout, making good use of his advantage in height and reach. “We knew Cleverly would start out strongly but I had expected Karo to be more active after five rounds,” Ulli Wegner said. “He should have been much more aggressive but he will learn from his mistakes. You must never forget that he does not have a big amateur background and is still very young. He will be back

Mosley needs to only fight come forward fighters for the rest of his career. If you box a little bit dude is a fish out of water. I still want him to fight Cotto again for his last fight.

IMO, yes, he's the real deal!

I don't think they should rush things with him just yet because he's so young he still has a bit to learn. Maybe another year or two before fighting elite fighters.

But yeah, apparently he's already a big star in Mexico, draws tons of fans to his fights. After last night, I don't see any reason why he can't be a star in America too. He seems to have all the qualities of a star.

This is what Baldomir had to say after the fight. Coming from a guy who hadn't been knocked out in 16 years and has been in the ring with some of the best, I think it says a lot about Alvarez:

"It's true that he hits hard. He hits really hard," Baldomir said. "His power really surprised me. This kid is the real deal. And he's going to be a champion. No one has hit me like he hit me before. He knocked me out me and nobody (except one man) has ever knocked me out."

Mosley...meh.

Ortiz looked solid; hopefully his fight vs. Maidana is long in the past (in his mind) and he can live up to his potential.

Canelo...damn. What can you say; it looked like he had no respect for Baldomir's power after a few rounds. What a solid puncher; he sits down on his shots. I hope he isn't rushed, and I do believe that he's the ''NEXT BEST THING" from Mexico.

Mora didn't do anything to win the fight other then run. And Mosley looked like shit but he did try to make the fight. It was a snooze fest for sure. Alvarez is looking good so far to me. Ortiz needs to fight someone that's not old and shot all to hell, before he can get my respect back.
