WEC 39 bonuses worth $7,500 go to Hendricks, Serdyukov, Page and Brown
Johny Hendricks, Alex Serdyukov, Damacio Page and Mike Brown were each awarded $7,500 "Fight Night" bonuses stemming from the March 1 "WEC 39" Brown vs. Garcia" event.
The event took place at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, and aired on Versus.
Hendricks and Serdyukov earned Fight of the Night bonuses, Page earned the Knockout of the Night award, and Brown earned the Submission of the Night.
In one of the night's seven un-aired preliminary-card fights, Hendricks topped Serdyukov via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Hendricks, a former four-time All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State, moved to 5-0 with the victory.
Page, meanwhile, picked up the knockout award after stopping Marcos Galvao in just 18 seconds. Page now has stoppage victories in 10 his 11 career wins; eight have come in the first round.
Brown, meanwhile, dazzled in his main-event fight when he floored Garcia with an overhand right, followed him to the mat with ground and pound, and then forced him to tap-out with an arm-triangle choke. The victory, which was Brown's ninth straight, came at the 1:57 mark of the first round.

Anthony Johnson vs. John Howard targeted for TUF9 Finale in June
Two exciting and explosive welterweights have agreed to meet at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale in June.
Sources close to the negotiations told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Anthony Johnson (7-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and John Howard (11-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) have agreed to the bout, which is expected to be finalized in the coming week or two.
MMAjunkie.com first reported last week that the TUF9 Finale is expected to take place June 20, though the event and a location have not been officially announced.
The event, set to air on Spike TV, also features the welterweight and lightweight finales for the upcoming ninth season of "TUF." The show, which debuts April 1, features a U.S. vs. U.K. squad with Dan Henderson heading the American team and Michael Bisping leading the British squad.
The Johnson vs. Howard fight will likely take place on the night's televised main card.
Johnson will go for his third straight win (and fourth win his past five fights) when he meets Howard. At The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale in December, Johnson recently avenged a controversial loss to Kevin Burns. Burn originally defeated Burns at UFC Fight Night 14 in July 2008, but an inadvertent eye poker set up the victory.
Johnson rebounded for a brutal third-round knockout (via head kick) of Burns in the second meeting and then recently scored a first-round TKO of Luigi Fioravanti earlier this month a UFC Fight Night 17. Johnson is now 4-2 in his UFC career.
Howard, meanwhile, recently made his octagon debut at UFC 94. There, the former Ring of Combat and IFL fighter scored a split-decision win over a very tough Chris Wilson. The Northeast-based fighter has now won four consecutive fights.

I’m just trying to figure out what we’re doing, that’s all. I’m kind of between a rock and a hard place. The fans and the media treat me like I’m on my tenth show. I’m on my third show, and I’m just trying to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes that I made in the other events. If there’s things I’ve made mistakes on I try to fix them. I’m trying to be methodical about everything. I’m just trying to make sure that whatever we do, we’re doing it right. And then on the other hand, sponsors and everybody else are treating it like it is my second show and trying to make me prove myself, and that’s what I’m doing. So I’m kind of between a rock and a hard place. It’s only my third show. It’s not like I’ve done this before. It’s not like we come from another organization of smaller fights. This is right out of the gate, we showed up, we did a huge show, we did a second huge show, now I’m just trying to figure out how we do our third show…. [I have learned] a lot [from the first two shows]. The production, making sure everybody’s there on time, making sure everyone flies in on time. There’s just a lot of stuff that — not that I didn’t know, it’s just that there was definitely a learning curve. Not to mention fighters’ purses. Pay-per-view. Not that I didn’t think about it, it’s just very involved.”

Thierry Quenville could be the next addition to the WEC featherweight division
Popular Canadian fighter “The Surgeon” Thierry Quenneville may be headed down to World Extreme Cagefighting following a vehement victory over UFC veteran Douglas Evans at XMMA 7: Inferno.
The match-up took place on Friday night in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Quenneville confirmed the rumors of a possible move to WEC moments before the featherweight bout.
“I am working with Greg Jackson to secure a spot in the WEC,” said Quenneville. “If I win tonight, we should finalize our negotiations.”
And win he did.
Quenneville recovered from a brutal first round barrage from Evans to submit the UFC export via triangle choke in the second round. In a showcase of resiliency and well-roundedness, Quenneville may have ensured his spot on a future WEC event.
The win marked Quenneville’s first since dropping a submission loss to top featherweight Hatsu Hioki at TKO 35 last October.
A product of Tristar Gym under instructor Firas Zahabi, as well as a primary training partner of UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, Quenneville holds other notable wins over the likes of Bellator Fighting Championship hopeful Ben Greer and current XMMA lightweight champion Kajan Johnson.
A native of Lapraire, Quebec, Quenneville hopes to boost the WEC’s 145-pound division with some Canadian flavor.

Rashad Evans Signs Extension With UFC
For those that follow MMAPayout.com on Twitter, we alerted you to the fact that Rashad Evans had just started up negotiations with the UFC on a new contract. Talks look to have concluded quickly, as Fighters Only is reporting that Rashad signed an extension on Friday night:
UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has signed a new deal with the UFC, Fighters Only has learned.
The light-heavyweight champion agreed to the new contract - which will extend his time with the UFC - on Friday evening.
The standard TUF winner contract is a 10 fight deal, that includes the TUF Finale. Rashad was still under his original deal, and by virtue of holding the 205 title was subject to the Champion’s clause (tying the fighter to the company even after a contract is up), so there was a bit of a leverage imbalance going on in negotiations. That said, negotiations came to a swift conclusion, and the Evans camp is quite happy with the deal from what we hear. The extension paves the way for Rashad’s next title defense, which should occur this summer against either Rampage Jackson or Lyoto Machida.

Struve At Contractual Crossroads with UFC Loss
Zac Robinson of Sports By The Numbers MMA has an interesting look at one of the little thought of ins and outs of the Standard Zuffa contract for those just getting their foot in the door with the UFC . He translates the blog of Stefan Struve’s train-ager Bob Schreiber and where Stefan stands after his loss at UFC 95:
The way the UFC works is that you get a contract which states you HAVE TO win your first 2 fights or you’re out.
IF you lose the first one, you get a do over, IF you have shown them something, which Stefan didn’t do.
The last option is that the UFC puts his contract on hold, and then he has to fight AND win 2 fights outside the UFC and when you do the UFC resumes your contract.
I have a meeting with the UFC execs in two weeks and then we’ll hear what the UFC wants to do with Stefan, I’ll keep you posted.

Mirko Cro-Cop is in a similar situation, having left they UFC to fight elsewhere but still having UFC fights on his contract to fulfill. There are once again reports that Athens 2004 silver medalist in Judo, Hiroshi Izumi, will make the transition to MMA. Izumi was rumored to participate at the January 4th SENGOKU event but nothing came off it. Now, the rumor has resurfaced and it is being reported that he has already started training MMA and that it is expected that he will announce his transition to MMA at the All-Japan Judo Championships (in April I think), which in that case would be his last Judo tournament.

Bloody Elbow Exclusive: Ken Shamrock to Face Bobby Lashley at Roy Jones Jr.'s "March Badness"
Sources close to Bloody Elbow can exclusively confirm that the heretofore unnamed opponent of former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley set to square off at Roy Jones Jr.'s mixed boxing and MMA event known as "March Badness" is none other than Ken Shamrock.
Shamrock is coming off a recent submission victory over Ross Clifton at the inaugural Wargods event on February 13, 2009. Lashley is coming off of his professional MMA debut, stopping Joshua Franklin at a Mixed Fighting Alliance event on January 13, 2008. The bout will be contested at heavyweight.
The Lashley vs. Shamrock bout is part of an hybrid boxing-mixed martial arts card being assembled and promoted by former Ring Magazine pound-for-pound greatest boxer alive in Roy Jones, Jr. Jones's promotional company, Square Ring Promotions, Inc., has scheduled the event to take place at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida and will be broadcast live on pay-per-view. According to published reports, a press conference is scheduled for Feb. 11 to formally announce the event. The event itself is scheduled for March 21st.
Also appearing on the card will be Jones himself as he takes on Omar Sheika in a light heavyweight boxing bout. BJ Flores is also set to fight on the card, although the opponent has not yet been named.
In MMA action, former victor over Kimbo Slice and season two veteran of "The Ultimate Fighter" in Seth Petruzelli will lock horns with former WEC light heavyweight champion Doug "The Rhino" Marshall. Another MMA bout scheduled to take place involves former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson taking on former UFC heavyweight contender Jeff "The Snowman" Monson.
Lashley will be fighting for only his second time in professional MMA competition, however, concerns have swirled surrounding Ken Shamrock's health and ability to fight at the professional level given his age as well as the damge he has sustained over the course of his career. Shamrock's only recent win comes against a 6-9 Ross Clifton. The 45 year-old has lost five of his last six professional matches and was removed from the EliteXC: Heat card in October of 2008 just hours prior to his fight due to injuries allegedly sustained during pre-fight warm-ups.
