Alexander Povetkin: "I Will Snatch Klitschko's Titles"

By Mark Vester

On December 13, IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin is planning to show the world that IBF/WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko is the past. The battle of Olympic Gold Medal winners will take place at the SAP Arena in Mannheim. Povetkin believes that Klitschko is his big chance to make a statement.

"I will snatch the world title from Klitschko," Povetkin said. "Now I am here. I am the future."

Klitschko, still in his prime and more experienced, is confindent of victory, but will not overlook Povetkin.

"Alexander Povetkin is a very strong opponent, whom I definitely will not underestimate," Klitschko said on his website, klitschko.com. "That we are both Olympic champions speaks for itself. The fans will witness a great heavyweight fight. I am really looking forward to boxing again in the SAP Arena. I have become world champion there twice and the fans from the region are unique. The atmosphere in the hall was amazing at both of my previous appearances

Roy Jones Jr. - "I Can Knock Joe Calzaghe Out"

By Mark Vester

Former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. says that he can knock Joe Calzaghe out when the two collide on November 8 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Jones will not come to the ring looking for a knockout, but he believes that his punches are harder than those of Bernard Hopkins and Jeff Lacy and if he lands a shot on Calzaghe's chin, the fight may be over.

Jones seems to have convinced himself of a possible stoppage after watching Hopkins drop Calzaghe in the first round of their April bout. He doesn't believe that Calzaghe will be able to survive if he lands the same exact shot.

"I know that I hit harder than Bernard. But it's about timing. Jeff Lacy hit harder than Bernard as well, but he didn't get close enough to Joe to hit him. I think there's a wonderful possibility that I stop Joe, but you can't go into the fight looking for a knockout," Jones said to Setanta Sports.

Freddie Roach - "Manny is Knocking De La Hoya Out"

By Mark Vester

Trainer Freddie Roach is so confident that WBC lightweight champ Manny Pacquiao will stop Oscar De La Hoya on December 6, he told Nick Giongco of the Manila Bulletin that ringside judges are not necessary for the Las Vegas bout. A few days ago, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told Setanta Sports that De La Hoya will beat Pacquiao by way of a brutal knockout.

"We are going to knock him out anyway," Roach said. "There’s no way we’ll lose this fight. They think I’m crazy but that’s how I see it."

The fight takes place at 147-pounds, with Pacquiao moving up by twelve-pounds and De La Hoya moving down by three [since his last fight in May]. Roach doesn't see size playing a role in the fight.

"Let’s look at the history of boxing," Roach said. "Leonard got down to 154 lbs (super-welter) and fought Terry Norris and Norris won after winning the middleweight (160 lbs), super-middle (165 lbs) and light-heavy (175 lbs)."
