Tsu Surf on Always Seeing People Die in the Streets: “It’s Like Rinse & Repeat” (Part 1)

In this clip, Tsu Surf speaks on growing up in Newark, New Jersey, where he ultimately witnessed violence and crime at a very young age, recalling that he saw his first murder by the age of 13. From there, he reflects on how it wasn’t unusual to see bloodshed throughout the neighborhood, likening the mindset of the community as “rinse and repeat” in consideration to how often death occurred. With that said, he does believe he experienced some trauma from being exposed to that lifestyle, all the while noting that he didn’t have a strong father figure around him to help make sense of everything he’d seen.
