Producer/emcee, Steve Spiffler, has been on a roll the past couple of years. From releasing some of the sauciest ‘Soul Flips’ and dropping some gnarly 16s, the 26 year old Stockton, CA native never fails month after month to lace the game with something fresh and innovative. This month, he teams up with underground legends Planet Asia and Tristate for “Trophy Case,” a super soulful and buttery joint, which boasts both Spiffler’s production and rhyme skills.
TriState sets off the three man relay with a 16 that stays glued to the beat like a slalom course. After the sample rocks for a few bars, Spliff steps to the mic dropping bars from his third-eye with raps like, “Flourite on the gold chain and let it cool my chest/ Bitch I’m Chakra Khan, they see my aura beaming through my chest.” To complete the trifecta, PA Medallions delivers a rewind worthy verse, abound with similes, metaphors that can “communicate with dolphins and whales.”
