Snoop Dogg Changes Name To “Snoopzilla” For New Funk Album

He went from Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion and now will be going by “Snoopzilla” as he gears up to release a new Funk album.

Snoop Dogg is currently recording a new Funk album with Funk musician Dam-Funk. The new album is titled 7 Days of Funk, and for this project, Snoop drops the Dogg Lion will be going by the moniker, Snoopzilla.

According to Rolling Stone, Snoop’s inspiration of his name change comes from Parliament-Funkadelic bass maestro Bootsy Collins who used the nickname Bootzilla.

The West Coast veteran spoke on his influence for his latest name change:

We’re the babies of the Mothership. I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.

Dam-funk also spoke on the album with Snoopzilla:

Snoop knew what I was thinking without me having to articulate it. That’s how you know when you gel artistically with someone. These beats were made for him and he laid down some of the smoothest harmonies and melodies I’ve ever heard. It’s hip-hop, but you can also hear what we grew up on, from Zapp to Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and Patrice Rushen.

“Snoopzilla” and Dam-Funk’s  7 Days of Funk will feature Tha Dogg Pound and drummer-singer Steve Arrington.

7 Days Of Funk is slated for a December 10th release.
