San Diego’s Urban Network Digital and Amalgamation Magazine Conference Recap

Fresh off the success of its recent comeback Conference, Urban Network Digital and Amalgamation Magazine: An Industry Quarterly returned to San Diego, Calif., June 4-7, 2015 for its Annual Music-Entertainment Conference. The  3-day event was held at tropical-themed Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2270 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA 92108.

This is the only event of its kind held on the West Coast. More than 600 people attended last years Urban Network  Conference. Rising R&B singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko, Grammy Award-winning Bones Thugs-N-Harmony rapper Krayzie Bone, “American Idol” alum Joshua Ledet and acclaimed producer and songwriter Harvey Mason, Jr. were among the artists to take part in in this years Urban Network Digital & Amalgamation Music Entertainment Back to Basics 2 Conference.

Amalgamation Magazine Publisher David Mitchell stuck to the standards of the conference with  “Digital strategies, navigating social media, music brands, mass media and licensing one’s music for TV, Film and Digital was also among the various topics that were discussed which are all at the forefront of today’s music business issues.  The hour-long panel discussions ranged from topics Urban Network has long championed: the State of Hip-Hop, Gospel Music, R&B Music, forums for mix show DJs, indie labels and artists, A&R development, production and songwriting, along with panels tailored for radio professionals.”

The 3 day conference attracted some of the music industry’s most credible ethnicity, From Hip Hop DX Chief Editor Justin Hunte, Super Producer Haze Banga, Young California’s DJ Amen, L&HH Mally Mall, Ray J and Glide’s C.E.O. Ari Roisman to name a few. Independent artists such as San Diego’s “Tru7h” was one of many artists to showcase their talent on the Urban Network Digital stage.

Held In a city with more than enough talent to carry the industry for the next ten years it is still unclear to me why there was a minimal amount of San Diego artists present. Did the word “Urban” scare away the indie rock bands, in witch San Diego has a plethora of. The lack of San Diego’s underground Hip Hop artist,  DJ’s, producers and song writers leads me to ask this question…

Will the city of San Diego ever get it together and win collectively? With that said, Great event and salute to all of you that were in attendance from Mitchy Slick & Tha Wrongkind, Big June, Lil 8, Chi Bully, Mr Caypre, Joe Got Slapz, Dove Shack, Domi Young, South Central Kartel and many more others not mentioned.
