Mik Brown releases “Respect” song and video, in true representation of a new breed of MCs in the Hip-Hop community.
Innovative and gifted, Los Angeles based recording artist and UC Berkeley graduate Mik Brown has catapulted onto the music scene with an insatiable hunger. A Philly girl full of “Brotherly Love”, Mik intends to present a fresh perspective to the current Hip-Hop community… speaking to and representing a breed of fans ready for this rare example of a female MC in today’s market.
Brown’s highly anticipated music video, “Respect”, has been premiered on Tuesday, March 11th, 2014. Genius Music’s Platinum Producer, D’Andre “PoPo” Smith, produced the club banger. An eclectic mix of grungy guitars and Hip-Hop, “Respect” is sure to excite Brown’s strong and steadily growing fanbase.
The concept behind “Respect” surfaced on behalf of the deep roots of inequality between men and women, whether economical, social or physical. Mik Brown proves that regardless of gender, you can gain respect while being exactly who you are. “Being a woman in the world of Hip-Hop and such a male dominated industry is a constant challenge. Expressing and overcoming that frustration has been the sheer inspiration for this song and video,” Brown said.
“Respect” was filmed at one of Mik’s most inspirational hangouts, an open aired rooftop right off the historical Sunset Strip, chosen for the sense of strength and beauty it invokes. AzMarie Livingston, a fashion model and recording artist who rose to fame on “America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion”, pays her “respect” alongside Mik Brown playing guitar. The scenario and scenery relay the message that when you stay true to yourself, not anyone or anything can penetrate the raw core of who you are.
Mik Brown’s album is a complete body of work that combines her love of international dance music and hip-hop. The album titled Miss Mik is due for release on April 8, 2014.
Radio Stations, fans, critics, and new music seekers stay tuned for Mik Brown’s music to invade the airwaves. “Let’s Werk” and “Respect” are currently available for purchase on iTunes.
