P. Diddy arrested after fight with UCLA football coach (Update)

P. Diddy was arrested on UCLA’s campus Monday for getting into a fight with a Bruins assistant coach early Monday afternoon. Yes, you read that correctly.

And yes, that P. Diddy (He’ll always be Puff Daddy to me).

Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, is a redshirt junior defensive back for the Bruins. He has played in seven games combined over the past two seasons, registering four tackles.

According to TMZ, one of UCLA’s assistant coaches was “screaming at Justin on the field,” and Diddy later “confronted the coach and grabbed him.” As a result, Diddy, 45, was “arrested for assault” and remains in custody “at campus jail.”

UCLA later confirmed the report and said that Diddy was charged with “assault with a deadly weapon,” with the weapon being a kettlebell – a piece of weightlifting equipment.

Here’s UCLA’s full statement:

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. today, Sean Combs (also known as P. Diddy) was arrested at UCLA’s Acosta Athletic Training Complex on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, which was a kettlebell. No one was seriously injured and UCPD is investigating. Combs is expected to be transported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center later this evening.

“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation,” UCLA head coach Jim Mora said in a statement. “This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”

According to TMZ, the coach involved is Sal Alosi, the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator. You may recognize that name. Alosi used to be the strength coach for the New York Jets, until he was caught tripping an opposing player who was running down the field to cover a punt.
