Out Now: Brasstracks Produced Soul From Jak Lizard – ‘Shine To Rise’ EP

Jak Lizard has released his debut project, the Shine To Rise EP. The collection is a kaleidoscopic journey through r&b, soul, rap and more, while delivering everything from sun-soaked vibes to heart-worn introspection. With executive production from GRAMMY-winner Ivan Jackson (of Brasstracks), the record was also produced and co-written with frequent collaborator Itamar Gov-Ari with support from Gabe Monro (Candid Music Group) and features rising NYC artists S’natra and Joanna Teters.

You only need to catch a glimpse of a Jak Lizard performance to understand what the inventive New York songwriter is all about. Jak’s world is a vibrant melting pot of sounds, shapes, colors and words to match his exuberant stage presence and genre-hopping sound which flourishes on Shine to Rise with tracks ranging from hip-hop and heartbreak (“Much to Me”) to doo-wop and euphoria (“Can I Stay”).

Of Lizard, ELEVATOR proclaims, “Jak effortlessly breathes new life into old-school styles with his passionate and powerful delivery that pairs perfectly with a refined lyricism that conveys wisdom beyond his years.” This lyricism is backed by an airtight live rhythm section that brings an irrepressible groove to this multifaceted style that blends jazz, hip-hop, and soul influences. The praise from ELEVATOR joins a growing chorus of love for Jak’s music”, with Earmilk lauding his “Quality Of Life” single as a “smooth and soulful sonic joy to the ears” and The Word Is Bond giving props to the track’s “edgy vibe and profound lyrics”.

Shine to Rise is the first collection of music released by Jak Lizard, whose previous releases of the singles “Sisters (ft. Yoh)”, “Mrs. J”,  “Quality of Life” and “Cauliflower” have garnered him attention from outlets such as Earmilk, Elevator, Daily Chiefers and more while helping to grow a loyal fanbase. Shine to Rise is just the beginning for the NYC-based crooner as Jak continues to grind in and outside of the studio. With collaborations with the likes of Taylor Bennett, GRAMMY-winners Brasstracks, oddCouple, Alexander Lewis, Ben Lusher (of Thirdstory), BXRBER and more on the way, Jak is getting better daily and is primed for an exciting future.
