49er NaVorro Bowman hosts Toy Drive at San Francisco YMCA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 9, 2013) – A leader both on and off the field, San Francisco 49ers’ ace linebacker, Navorro Bowman, will link with two non-profit organizations housed in the Hunters Point District, Bayview YMCA and Urban Ed Academy, to spread Christmas cheer to 200 disadvantaged kids.

Bowman will enthusiastically lead a Holiday Toy Drive, Monday, December 9, 2013, at5pm at the Bayview YMCA, 1601 Lane Street, San Francisco, CA 94124. The Bayview YMCA is a partner of the 49ers Foundation and has been instrumental in providing programming for the community. Bowman has connected with The Foundation for the Kids to secure books, games and sneakers for distribution.

As a product of the Boys & Girls Club in Prince George County (Maryland), Bowman is eager to lend a helping hand to those in the Hunters Point District who are socioeconomically challenged, having been raised in a similar environment.  His ultimate goal is to beam rays of sunshine, hope and joy to a predominantly African-American community considered a haven for crime and despair.

Furthermore, Bowman is thrilled to embrace and acknowledge a continued partnership with the Urban Ed Academy, a program that helps underprivileged boys, grades 3 to 5, to succeed in life by enhancing their communication and life skills.  With the support of parents, families, schools and the community, The Urban Ed Academy extends to students an opportunity to explore various methods of learning.  In an effort to raise awareness of the program, an initiative for which he has a strong passion and commitment to enhance the lives of young people in the San Francisco community, Bowman hosted a charity fundraiser earlier this summer.
