After 2 years of building this project in Oakland, CA, HBK Gang’s Azure returns at the top of the year with the 12-track LP, Leap Year. The sounds, content, and direction is eclectic against the grain of the current sound of today’s rap music. Built upon the same vibe of his 2013 Mint Condition mixtape, Leap Year shows a refined and sharper Azure both sonically (most of LY is self-produced) and lyrically.
It’s an evolved version of Underground Hip-Hop that’s been absent for some years. Azure enlists the likes of MURS as well as production from his HBK team in Kuya Beats. The project is truly a ride from top to bottom even sprinkled with musical piano breakdowns and interludes composed by DJ Beamon (Jason Derulo, Ty Dolla $ign) and Julian Le (Jhene Aiko). Along with appearances by Marc E Bassy, Jay Ant, Down 2 Earth, and more, Leap Year has come just in time for hip-hop lovers worldwide.
