For more than two decades, I’ve shared pieces of my journey through music.
Legacy of the Light is an extension of that journey.
Released alongside my debut sci-fi novel of the same name, this song exists at the intersection of reality and imagination. The novel follows Ty, an emcee from New Jersey who discovers he is connected to an ancient legacy stretching across generations, worlds, and hidden histories. While the story is fiction, many of the themes are deeply personal: purpose, perseverance, family, destiny, self-discovery, and finding your voice in a noisy world.
In many ways, this record serves as a bridge between my life, my music, and the universe I’ve created through the book.
Shot at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, with the Atlantic Ocean and New York City skyline as the backdrop, the video blends live-action performance with cinematic visuals inspired by the world of Legacy of the Light.
This project is especially meaningful because it was directed by my son, Azari Simmons. Legacy is one of the central themes of both the song and the novel, making this collaboration something I’ll always be proud of.
